وهي الرويئة، وقيل إنما هي الروية بغير همز، ثم قالوا روأ، فهمزوه على غير قياس كما قالوا حلأت السويق، وإنما هو من الحلاوة.
And it is 'al-ruway'i'ah', and it was said that it is actually 'al-ruwiyah' without hamza, then they said 'ru'a', and they hamzated it irregularly, just as they said 'hala'ta al-sawiq', when it is actually from 'al-halawah'.
وفي الصحاح: أن الروية جرت في كلامهم غير مهموزة.
And in Al-Sihah: that 'al-ruwiyah' occurred in their speech un-hamzated.
التهذيب: روأت في الأمر وريأت وفكرت بمعنى واحد.
Al-Tahdhib: 'Ru'tu fi al-amr' and 'ri'tu' and 'fakkartu' mean one thing.
والراء: شجر سهلي له ثمر أبيض.
And 'al-ra': is a lowland tree with white fruit.
وقيل: هو شجر أغبر له ثمر أحمر، واحدته راءة، وتصغيرها رويئة.
And it was said: it is a grayish tree with red fruit, its singular is 'ra'ah', and its diminutive is 'ruway'i'ah'.
وقال أبو حنيفة: الراءة لا تكون أطول ولا أعرض من قدر الإنسان جالسا.
And Abu Hanifa said: 'Al-ra'ah' is not longer or wider than the measure of a sitting person.
قال: وعن بعض أعراب عمان أنه قال: الراءة شجيرة ترتفع على ساق ثم تتفرع، لها ورق مدور أحرش.
He said: And from some of the Bedouins of Oman, he said: 'Al-ra'ah' is a small tree that rises on a stem then branches out, it has round, rough leaves.
قال، وقال غيره: شجيرة جبلية كأنها عظلمة، ولها زهرة بيضاء لينة كأنها قطن.
He said, and others said: a mountainous shrub like 'athlamah', and it has a soft white flower like cotton.
وأروأت الأرض: كثر راؤها، عن أبي زيد، حكى ذلك أبو علي الفارسي.
And 'arwa'at al-ard': the land became abundant with its 'ra' trees, according to Abu Zayd, Abu Ali al-Farsi narrated this.
أبو الهيثم: الراء: زبد البحر، والمظ: دم الأخوين، وهو دم الغزال وعصارة عروق الأرطى، وهي حمر، وأنشد:
Abu Al-Haytham: 'Al-ra': is sea foam, and 'al-mazh': is dragon's blood, which is the blood of the gazelle and the sap of the 'artal' tree, and it is red, and he recited:
كأن، بنحرها وبمشفريها ... ومخلج أنفها، راء ومظ
As if, on her chest and her lips... and the bridge of her nose, were 'ra' and 'mazh'.
والمظ: رمان البر.
And 'al-mazh': is wild pomegranate.
