And al-khaba'ah: the woman who appears then hides.

إن أبغض كنائني إلي الطلعة الخبأة: يعني التي تطلع ثم تخبأ رأسها؛ ويروى: الطلعة القبعة؛ وهي التي تقبع رأسها أي تدخله، وقيل: تخبؤه؛

Indeed, the most hated of my granddaughters to me is the appearing and hiding one: meaning she who appears then hides her head; and it is narrated: the appearing and covering one; she is the one who covers her head, meaning she tucks it in, and it is said: she hides it.

والخبء والخبيء والخبيئة: الشيء المخبوء.

And al-khab', al-khabi', and al-khabi'ah: the hidden thing.

ولفظت خبيئها أي ما كان مخبوءا فيها من النبات، تعني الأرض

and she brought forth her hidden (store), meaning what was hidden in her of plants, referring to the earth.

والخبء: ما خبأت من ذخيرة ليوم ما.

And al-khab': what you have hidden as a reserve for a certain day.

الخبء، مهموز، هو الغيب غيب السماوات والأرض

Al-khab', with hamza, is the unseen, the unseen of the heavens and the earth.

قيل معناه: الحرث وإثارة الأرض للزراعة، وأصله من الخبء الذي قال الله عز وجل: يخرج الخبء.

It was said its meaning is: plowing and tilling the earth for cultivation, and its origin is from the hidden which Allah Almighty said: He brings forth the hidden.

واحدة الخبايا: خبيئة، مثل خطيئة وخطايا

The singular of al-khabaaya: khabī'ah, like khaṭī'ah and khaṭaaya.

وأراد بالخبايا: الزرع لأنه إذا ألقى البذر في الأرض، فقد خبأه فيها.

And he meant by al-khabaaya: the crops, because when one casts the seed into the earth, he has hidden it within it.

تتبع خبايا الأرض، وادع مليكها، ... لعلك يوما أن تجاب وترزقا

Follow the hidden places of the earth, and call upon its King, ... perhaps one day you will be answered and provided for.

ويجوز أن يكون ما خبأه الله في معادن الأرض.

And it is permissible that it is what Allah has hidden in the mines of the earth.

اختبأت عند الله خصالا: إني لرابع الإسلام وكذا وكذا

I have reserved for myself with God certain qualities: indeed, I was the fourth to embrace Islam, and so and so.

أي ادخرتها وجعلتها عنده لي.

Meaning, I stored them up and made them with Him for me.

وهو سمة توضع في موضع خفي من الناقة النجيبة، وإنما هي لذيعة بالنار، والجمع أخبئة، مهموز.

And al-khabi': what is obscure of a thing and then is sought after.

وقد اختبأه.

And he hid it.

وخبيئة: اسم امرأة؛ قال ابن الأعرابي: هي خبيئة بنت رياح بن يربوع بن ثعلبة.

And Khabī'ah: a woman's name; Ibn al-A'rābī said: she is Khabī'ah daughter of Riyāḥ ibn Yarbu' ibn Tha'labah.
