جنأ في عدوه: إذا ألح وأكب، وأنشد:
Jana'a fi 'adwihi: if he is persistent and stoops over, and he recited:
وكأنه فوت الحوالب، جانئا، ... ريم، تضايقه كلاب، أخضع تضايقه: تلجئه، ريم أخضع.
And it was as if he missed the she-camels, stooping, ... he is pursued by dogs, they corner him: they force him, he is cornered.
وأجنأ الرجل على الشيء: أكب؛ قال: وإذا أكب الرجل على الرجل يقيه شيئا قيل: أجنأ.
And a man ajna'a upon a thing: he stooped over; it is said: and when a man stoops over another to shield him from something, it is said: ajna'a.
فعلق يجانئ عليها يقيها الحجارة، أي يكب عليها.
So he held onto it, yujani'u upon it, shielding it from stones, meaning he stooped over it.
فجعل الرجل يجنئ عليها أي يكب ويميل عليها ليقيها الحجارة.
So the man began to yajni'u upon her, meaning he stooped and leaned over her to shield her from stones.

الجنأ: ميل في الظهر، وقيل: في العنق.

If you had witnessed, the morning you departed, ... the stooping of the returning ones upon my pillow.
وجنئ عليه: أكب عليه يكلمه.
And jani'a 'alayhi: he stooped over him, speaking to him.
وجنئ الرجل جنأ، وهو أجنأ بين الجنإ: أشرف كاهله على صدره؛
And the man jani'a jun'an, and he is ajna' bayna al-juni': his shoulder protrudes over his chest.
رجل أجنأ بين الجنإ، أي أحدب الظهر.
A man ajna' bayna al-juni', meaning hunchbacked.
وجنأ ظهره جنوءا كذلك، والأنثى جنواء.
And he jana'a his back junu'an likewise, and the female is junya'.
وجنئ الرجل يجنأ جنأ: إذا كانت فيه خلقة.
And the man jani'a yajna' jun'an: if he had a congenital characteristic.
جنأ يجنأ جنوءا: إذا انكب على فرسه يتقي الطعن؛
Jana'a yajna' junu'an: if he fell upon his horse to avoid the thrust.
فإذا كان مستقيم الظهر ثم أصابه جنأ قيل جنئ يجنأ جنأ، فهو أجنأ.
And if he had a straight back and then جنأ afflicted him, it is said he jani'a yajna' jun'an, so he is ajna'.
الأجنأ: الذي في كاهله انحناء على صدره؛ وليس بالأحدب.
Al-ajna': he whose shoulder has a bend towards his chest; and he is not a hunchback.
رجل أجنأ وأدنأ مهموزان، بمعنى الأقعس، وهو الذي في صدره انكباب إلى ظهره.
A man ajna' and adna' (both hamzated), meaning al-aq'as, which is one whose chest is bent towards his back.
وظليم أجنأ ونعامة جنآء، ومن حذف الهمزة قال: جنواء، والمصدر الجنأ، وأنشد:
And a stooped ostrich (zulim ajna') and a stooped female ostrich (na'amah junya'), and whoever omits the hamza says: junya', and the masdar is al-jana', and he recited:
أصك، مصلم الأذنين، أجنا
Broad-nosed, with mutilated ears, ajna' (stooped).
والمجنأ، بالضم: الترس لاحديدابه.
And al-mijina' (with damma): the shield, due to its curvature.
ومجنإ، أسمر، قراع
And a shield (mijina'), dark-skinned, striking.
إذا ما زار مجنأة، عليها ... ثقال الصخر والخشب القطيل
When he visits a grave (mijnatun), upon it ... the heavy stones and the sturdy wood.
إنما عنى قبرا.
He only meant a grave.
والمجنأة: حفرة القبر.
And al-mijnatuh: the pit of the grave.
