صرعه، وفي التهذيب: اقتلعه وذهب به الأرض.
He threw him down, and in Al-Tahdhib: he uprooted him and took him to the ground.
وأجفأ به: طرحه.
And he threw him down.
وجفأ به الأرض: ضربها به.
And he struck him to the ground.
جفأ البرمة في القصعة جفأ: أكفأها، أو أمالها فصب ما فيها، ولا تقل أجفأتها.
He overturned the pot into the bowl, or tilted it and poured out what was in it, and do not say 'ajfa'atuhā'.
فاجفؤوا القدور بما فيها، والمعروف بغير ألف؛
So overturn the pots with what is in them, and it is known without the 'alif' form;
جفؤك ذا قدرك للضيفان، ... جفأ على الرغفان في الجفان خير من العكيس بالألبان
Your serving of your pot for guests... serving on bread in bowls is better than curdled milk with yogurt
فجفؤوا القدور أي فرغوها وقلبوها؛
So they overturned the pots, meaning they emptied and inverted them;
وروي: فأجفئوا، وهي لغة فيه قليلة مثل كفئوا وأكفئوا.
And it was narrated: 'fa-ajfa'ū', and it is a rare variant for it, like 'kafī'ū' and 'akfi'ū'.
جفأ الوادي غثاءه يجفأ جفأ: رمى بالزبد والقذى، وكذلك جفأت القدر: رمت بزبدها عند الغليان، وأجفأت به وأجفأته.
The valley cast off its froth and debris, and likewise the pot cast off its scum when boiling, and he caused it to cast off its froth.
واسم الزبد: الجفاء.
And the name for the scum is al-jafāʾ.
خلق الله الأرض السفلى من الزبد الجفاء أي من زبد اجتمع للماء.
Allah created the lowest earth from the froth, meaning from scum that gathered for the water.
يقال: جفأ الوادي جفأ: إذا رمى بالزبد والقذى.
It is said: the valley cast off its froth and debris when it threw up scum and debris.
فأما الزبد فيذهب جفاء، أي باطلا.
But as for the foam, it departs as debris, meaning as falsehood.
قال الفراء: أصله الهمزة، أو الجفاء ما نفاه السيل.
Al-Farra' said: its origin is the hamza, or al-jafāʾ is what the flood sweeps away.
والجفاء: الباطل أيضا.
And al-jafāʾ: is also falsehood.
جفأ الوادي: مسح غثاءه.
The valley cleared away its froth.
وقيل: الجفاء كما يقال الغثاء.
And it was said: al-jafāʾ is like al-ghuthāʾ (froth).
الزجاج: موضع قوله جفاء نصب على الحال.
Al-Zajjaj: the position of his saying 'jafāʾ' is accusative as a circumstantial adverb.
انطلق جفاء من الناس إلى هذا الحي من هوازن ، أراد: سرعان الناس وأوائلهم، شبههم بجفاء السيل.
A swift group of people went towards this tribe of Hawazin, meaning the swift and foremost people, likening them to the debris of the flood.
ابن السكيت: الجفاء: ما جفأه الوادي: إذا رمى به، وجفأت الغثاء عن الوادي وجفأت القدر أي مسحت زبدها الذي فوقها من غليها، فإذا أمرت قلت: اجفأها.
Ibn Al-Sikkit: Al-jafāʾ is what the valley casts off when it throws it away, and he cleared the froth from the valley and cleared the pot, meaning he wiped off its scum that was on top from its boiling, and when you command, you say: 'ajfa'hā'.
ويقال: أجفأت القدر إذا علا زبدها.
And it is said: the pot 'ajfa'at' when its scum rose.
وتصغير الجفاء: جفيء، وتصغير الغثاء: غثي بلا همز.
And the diminutive of al-jafāʾ is 'jufay', and the diminutive of al-ghuthāʾ is 'ghuthay' without hamza.
جفأ الباب جفأ وأجفأه: أغلقه.
He closed the door, and he closed it.
وفي التهذيب: فتحه.
And in Al-Tahdhib: he opened it.
جفأ البقل والشجر يجفؤه جفأ واجتفأه: قلعه من أصله.
He uprooted the herbs and trees, and he uprooted them from their roots.
سئل بعض الأعراب عن قوله صلى الله عليه وسلم: متى تحل لنا الميتة؟ فقال: ما لم تجتفئوا.
Some of the Bedouins were asked about the saying of the Prophet, peace be upon him: 'When is carrion permissible for us?' He said: 'Unless you have uprooted it.'
يقال اجتفأ الشيء: اقتلعه ثم رمى به.
It is said: 'ijtafa'a' the thing means to uproot it then throw it away.
ما لم تجتفئوا بقلا وترموا به، من جفأت القدر إذا رمت بما يجتمع على رأسها من الزبد والوسخ.
Unless you have harvested herbs and thrown them away, from 'jafa'at' the pot when it threw up what gathered on its top from scum and dirt.
وقيل: جفأ النبت واجتفأه: جزه، عن ابن الأعرابي.
And it was said: the plant was uprooted and he harvested it, according to Ibn Al-A'rabi.
