فأما الزبد فيذهب جفاء — But as for the foam, it departs as [worthless] debris.

So they overturned the pots, meaning they emptied and inverted them;
وروي: فأجفئوا، وهي لغة فيه قليلة مثل كفئوا وأكفئوا.
And it was narrated: 'fa-ajfa'ū', and it is a rare variant for it, like 'kafī'ū' and 'akfi'ū'.

خلق الله الأرض السفلى من الزبد الجفاء أي من زبد اجتمع للماء.

فأما الزبد فيذهب جفاء، أي باطلا.

وقيل: الجفاء كما يقال الغثاء.

الزجاج: موضع قوله جفاء نصب على الحال.
Al-Zajjaj: the position of his saying 'jafāʾ' is accusative as a circumstantial adverb.

Ibn Al-Sikkit: Al-jafāʾ is what the valley casts off when it throws it away, and he cleared the froth from the valley and cleared the pot, meaning he wiped off its scum that was on top from its boiling, and when you command, you say: 'ajfa'hā'.
ويقال: أجفأت القدر إذا علا زبدها.
And it is said: the pot 'ajfa'at' when its scum rose.
وتصغير الجفاء: جفيء، وتصغير الغثاء: غثي بلا همز.
And the diminutive of al-jafāʾ is 'jufay', and the diminutive of al-ghuthāʾ is 'ghuthay' without hamza.
جفأ الباب جفأ وأجفأه: أغلقه.

And in Al-Tahdhib: he opened it.

سئل بعض الأعراب عن قوله صلى الله عليه وسلم: متى تحل لنا الميتة؟ فقال: ما لم تجتفئوا.
Some of the Bedouins were asked about the saying of the Prophet, peace be upon him: 'When is carrion permissible for us?' He said: 'Unless you have uprooted it.'
يقال اجتفأ الشيء: اقتلعه ثم رمى به.
It is said: 'ijtafa'a' the thing means to uproot it then throw it away.
ما لم تجتفئوا بقلا وترموا به، من جفأت القدر إذا رمت بما يجتمع على رأسها من الزبد والوسخ.
Unless you have harvested herbs and thrown them away, from 'jafa'at' the pot when it threw up what gathered on its top from scum and dirt.
وقيل: جفأ النبت واجتفأه: جزه، عن ابن الأعرابي.
And it was said: the plant was uprooted and he harvested it, according to Ibn Al-A'rabi.
