And in the Hadith: A righteous dream is a part of forty-six parts of prophecy;
وإنما هي كرامة من الله عز وجل؛
It is only a grace from God Almighty;
ويجوز أن يكون أراد بالنبوة هاهنا ما جاءت به النبوة ودعت إليه من الخيرات أي إن هذه الخلال جزء من خمسة وعشرين جزءا مما جاءت به النبوة ودعا إليه الأنبياء.
And it is permissible that he meant by prophecy here what the prophecy brought and called for of good deeds, meaning that these qualities are a part of twenty-five parts of what the prophecy brought and the prophets called for.
وفي الحديث: أن رجلا أعتق ستة مملوكين عند موته لم يكن له مال غيرهم، فدعاهم رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فجزأهم أثلاثا ثم أقرع بينهم، فأعتق اثنين وأرق أربعة ؛
And in the Hadith: A man freed six slaves at his death, and he had no other wealth than them. So the Messenger of God, peace be upon him, called them and divided them into three parts, then drew lots among them, so he freed two and enslaved four;
أي فرقهم أجزاء ثلاثة، وأراد بالتجزئة أنه قسمهم على عبرة القيمة دون عدد الرءوس إلا أن قيمتهم تساوت فيهم، فخرج عدد الرءوس مساويا للقيم.
Meaning he divided them into three parts, and by division he meant that he divided them according to value rather than the number of heads, except that their values were equal among them, so the number of heads came out equal to the values.
المجزوء من الشعر: ما حذف منه جزآن أو كان على جزءين فقط، فالأولى على السلب والثانية على الوجوب.
The majzu' of poetry: what has two parts removed from it or consists of only two parts, the first being by negation and the second by affirmation.
وجزأ الشعر جزءا وجزأه فيهما: حذف منه جزءين أو بقاه على جزءين.
And he shortened the poetry by two parts and shortened it in them: he removed two parts from it or kept it with two parts.
ابن الأعرابي: يجزئ قليل من كثير ويجزئ هذا من هذا: أي كل واحد منهما يقوم مقام صاحبه،
Ibn al-A'rabi said: A little suffices for much, and this suffices for that: meaning each of them stands in place of its companion,
وجزأ بالشيء وتجزأ: قنع واكتفى به، وأجزأه الشيء: كفاه،
And he was content with the thing and became content with it: he was pleased and satisfied with it, and the thing sufficed him: it was enough for him,
وفي الحديث: ليس شيء يجزئ من الطعام والشراب إلا اللبن، أي ليس يكفي.
And in the Hadith: Nothing suffices for food and drink except milk, meaning it is not enough.
وجزئت الإبل: إذا اكتفت بالرطب عن الماء.
And the camels were satisfied: when they suffice with fresh herbage instead of water.
وظبية جازئة: استغنت بالرطب عن الماء.
And a satisfied gazelle: she dispensed with fresh herbage for water.
والجوازئ: الوحش، لتجزئها بالرطب عن الماء،
And al-jawazi': wild animals, because they are satisfied with fresh herbage instead of water,
وطعام لا جزء له: أي لا يتجزأ بقليله.
And food that has no part: meaning it is not divided by its small amount.
وأجزأ عنه مجزأه ومجزأته ومجزأه ومجزأته: أغنى عنه مغناه.
And it substituted for him its equivalent and its substitute and its equivalent and its substitute: it enriched him in its place.
وقال ثعلب: البقرة تجزئ عن سبعة وتجزي، فمن همز فمعناه تغني، ومن لم يهمز، فهو من الجزاء.
And Tha'lab said: A cow suffices for seven and suffices, so whoever uses hamza, its meaning is to suffice, and whoever does not use hamza, it is from al-jaza' (reward).
وفي حديث الأضحية: ولن تجزئ عن أحد بعدك : أي لن تكفي، من أجزأني الشيء أي كفاني.
And in the Hadith of the sacrifice: And it will not suffice for anyone after you: meaning it will not be enough, from ajza'ani al-shay' meaning kafani (it was enough for me).
ورجل له جزء أي غناء، قال: إني لأرجو، من شبيب، برا، ... والجزء، إن أخدرت يوما قرا
And a man has a part, meaning sufficiency, he said: I hope, from Shabeeb, for righteousness, ... And the part, if it becomes numb one day, it will suffice
وما عنده جزأة ذلك، أي قوامه.
And he does not have the base of that, meaning its sustenance.
ويقال: ما لفلان جزء وما له إجزاء: أي ما له كفاية.
And it is said: So-and-so has no part and no sufficiency: meaning he has no adequacy.
وفي حديث سهل: ما أجزأ منا اليوم أحد كما أجزأ فلان ، أي فعل فعلا ظهر أثره وقام فيه مقاما لم يقمه غيره ولا كفى فيه كفايته.
And in the Hadith of Sahl: None of us sufficed today as so-and-so sufficed, meaning he did an action whose effect appeared and he took a stand in it that no one else took and was not sufficient in his sufficiency.
والجزأة: أصل مغرز الذنب، وخص به بعضهم أصل ذنب البعير من مغرزه.
And al-jaz'ah: the base of the tail's root, and some specified it as the base of a camel's tail from its root.
والجزأة بالضم: نصاب السكين والإشفى والمخصف والميثرة، وهي الحديدة التي يؤثر بها أسفل خف البعير.
And al-jaz'ah (with dammah): the handle of the knife, awl, leather-stitcher, and al-maytharah, which is the iron with which the bottom of a camel's hoof is branded.
وقد أجزأها وجزأها وأنصبها: جعل لها نصابا وجزأة، وهما عجز السكين.
And he made it complete and he made it a part and he made it stand: he made for it a handle and a base, and they are the hilt of the knife.
قال أبو إسحاق: يعني به الذين جعلوا الملائكة بنات الله، تعالى الله وتقدس عما افتروا.
Abu Ishaq said: It means those who made the angels daughters of God, exalted is God and sanctified from what they fabricated.
قال: وقد أنشدت بيتا يدل على أن معنى جزءا معنى الإناث.
He said: And I have recited a verse that indicates that the meaning of 'juz'an' is the meaning of females.
والمعنى في قوله: وجعلوا له من عباده جزءا : أي جعلوا نصيب الله من الولد الإناث.
And the meaning in his saying: And they made from His servants a part: meaning they made God's share of children to be females.
وأجزأت المرأة: ولدت الإناث، وأنشد أبو حنيفة: زوجتها، من بنات الأوس، مجزئة، ... للعوسج اللدن، في أبياتها، زجل
And the woman gave birth to females: she bore daughters, and Abu Hanifa recited: I married her off, from the daughters of Aws, a female-bearer, ... to the supple acacia, in her verses, a song
الأصمعي: اسم الرجل جزء وكأنه مصدر جزأت جزءا.
Al-Asma'i said: The name of the man is Juz', and it is as if it is the masdar of juz'a juz'an.
قال الراعي: كانت بجزء، فمنتها مذاهبه ... «2»، وأخلفتها رياح الصيف بالغبر
Al-Ra'i said: She was at Juz', and her paths led her there ... and the summer winds disappointed her with dust
والجازئ: فرس الحرث بن كعب.
And Al-Jazi': the horse of Al-Harith ibn Ka'b.
وأبو جزء: كنية.
And Abu Juz': a kunyah.
قال حضرمي بن عامر: إن كنت أزننتني بها كذبا، ... جزء، فلاقيت مثلها عجلا
Hadrami ibn 'Amir said: If you have accused me of it falsely, ... Juz', then you have met its like swiftly
قال الخطابي: زعم راويه أنه اسم الرطب عند أهل المدينة؛ قال: فإن كان صحيحا، فكأنهم سموه بذلك للاجتزاء به عن الطعام؛ والمحفوظ: بقناع جرو بالراء، وهو صغار القثاء، وقد ذكر في موضعه.
Al-Khattabi said: Its narrator claimed it is the name of dates among the people of Medina; he said: If it is true, then it is as if they named it that for sufficiency from food; and what is preserved is: with a platter of jarw (with ra'), which is small gourds, and it has been mentioned in its place.
