نُجْعَةٌ ذ The seeking after herbage (S, Mgh, K) in its place; (S, K;) the going to seek after herbage in its place. (Msb.)

نَجِيعٌ ذ Effused blood: see 2 in art. خوض.

مَنْجَعٌ ذ , pl. مَنَاجِعُ A desert: see بَادِيَةٌ.

مُنْتَجَعٌ ذ A place where herbage is sought: see مَحْضَرٌ.

نِجَافٌ ذ of a door, i. q. دَرْوَنْد [a Persian word, A bolt, or bar. ] (IAar in L, art. رتج.)

طَعْنَةٌ نَجْلَاآءُ ذ A wide wound with a spear or the like. (TA.) See an ex. in a verse cited voce رُبَّ. ― -b2- عَيْنٌ نَجْلَاآءُ A wide eye; pl. عُيُونٌ نُجْلٌ. (TA.) See a verse in art. فرغ (conj. 4).

مِنْجَلٌ ذ A reaping-hook. (Mgh; and S, K, voce مِحْصَدٌ.) It has a toothed, or serrated, edge: (A, art. حز; and K, art. اشر:) and is sometimes plain. (K, voce مِحَشٌّ, and M and L, voce سِنٌّ.) See مِخْلَبٌ and دَرَهْرَهَةٌ. ― -b2- [ A reaping-hook: or a pruning-hook: sometimes signifying the latter:] an iron implement, having teeth, with which seed-produce is cut: or one with which the wood, or branch, is cut off from the tree, and cast down, or away. (TA.)

نَجيلٌ ذ : see طَحْمَاآءُ.

4 أَنْجَمَ ذ It ( rain, &c.) left off. (K.)

نَجْمٌ ذ [ A star. ― -b2- Also, An asterism, or constellation: being applied autonomastically to] the Pleiades. (S.) ― -b3- نُجُومٌ [like عِرْقٌ] signifies also The sprouts from the roots [of a tree, or shrub], before the رَبِيع [meaning either spring or autumn ], the heads of which one sees like large needles, clearing the ground. (TA.) See عُسْلُوجٌ. ― -b4- نَجْمٌ also signifies (tropical:) The time when a payment falls due. (Msb.) [Hence, app., an ex. cited voce طىٌّ.] ― -b5- And hence, (Msb,) (tropical:) An instalment: syn. وَظِيفَةٌ. (Mgh, Msb.) See also عَزْلٌ. ― -b6- نَجْمٌ and نَجْمَةٌ A kind of plant, triticum repens or dogs' grass: see ثِيلٌ.

مِنْجَمٌ ذ The beam of a balance; (MA;) the transverse piece of iron, in which is the tongue, of a balance. (S, K.) See عَمُودُ المِيزَانِ.

1 نَجَا ذ Alvum dejecit; (Msb, TA;) ventumve per anum emisit: (TA:) he voided his ordure; or broke wind. ― -b2- نَجَا, inf. n. نَجَاآءٌ, He was quick, or swift, and outstripped. (S.) See an ex. of the inf. n., voce غولٌ. ― -b3- نَجَا He became safe, or secure; he escaped. (Msb, &c.)

4 أَنْجَاهُ ذ and ↓ نَجَّاهُ He saved, him; rescued him; preserved him. (K.)

10 اِسْتَنْجَى ذ He washed, or wiped with a stone or a piece of dry clay, the place [ of exit ] of his excrement. (Msb.) -A2- اِسْتَنْجَوْا: see 8 in art. سعر.

نَجْوٌ ذ and نَجَاآءٌ A shower of rain. ― -b2- See شُوْبُوبٌ and 1. ― -b3- نجاء A well of which the water is distant [ from the mouth ]. (O, TA, voce قَرَبٌ.)

نَجْوَةٌ ذ An elevated piece of land. (Msb.)

نَجِىٌّ ذ : see نَجْوَى. ― -b2- عُرْيَانُ النَّجِىِّ: see art. عرى.

نَجْوَى ذ Secret discourse between two persons or parties. (TA.) ― -b2- A secret between two persons or parties; as also ↓ نَجِىٌّ. (K, TA.) ― -b3- A person, or persons, discoursing secretly, or telling secrets one with another. (TA.)

مَنْجَاةٌ ذ [ A cause, or means, of safety: of the measure مَفْعَلَةٌ, originally مَنْجَوَةٌ; similar to مَفْلَحَةٌ, &c.]. (S.)

نَجَيْتُ ذ a dial. var. of نَجَوْتُ: see دَوْكَةٌ.

نَاحِزٌ ذ : see نَاكِتٌ.

10 اِسْتَنْحَسْتُهُ عَنْ كَذَا ذ and ↓ تَنَحَّسْتُهُ: see 10 in art. سنح.

نَحِيفٌ ذ Slender, slim, thin, spare, lean, or light of flesh.

1 نَحَِلَ جِسْمُهُ ذ His body became lean, or emaciated. (S.)

نِحْلَةٌ ذ i. q. فَرِيضَةٌ; or دِيَانَةٌ; and دِينٌ, as in the saying مَا نِحْلَتُكَ [ What is thy religion? ]. (TA.)

1 نَحَمَ ذ , said of a horse, seems to be best rendered He breathed pantingly, or hard, with a sound from the chest. See 1 in art. ضبح.

نَحِيمٌ ذ signifies A sound (صَوْت) from the chest of the horse. (TA.)

1 نَحَا نَحْوَهُ ذ He went towards, or in the direction of, him or it. (Msb, TA.) ― -b2- Also, He pursued his (another's) course, doing as he did; or purposed his purpose. ― -b3- See عَرَضَ عَرْضَهُ, and شَدَا شَدْوَهُ; and see قَصْدَهُ. ― -b4- نَحَاهُ, inf. n. نَحْوٌ, signifies [also] He purposed it, or intended it. (MA.) ― -b5- نَحَوْتُ جِلْدَ البَعِيرِ, and ↓ أَنْحَيَتُهُ, I stripped off the skin of the camel. (Msb, voce سَلَخَ). See 4.

2 نَحَّى ذ He put a thing aside, or away, or apart; (Msb;) removed it from its place, (Msb, K, TA,) placed it at a distance. (TA.) ― -b2- He made a person to turn away, or withdraw, or retire, from (عَنْ) an affair. ― -b3- نَحَّى عَنْهُ الشَّىْءَ He put aside, or away, or he warded off, or removed, from him the thing. See 4.

4 أَنْحَى عَلَيْهِ ذ [ He leant, bore, or pressed, upon him, or it, with his body, hand, &c.:] i. q. اِعْتَمَدَ; as also ↓ نَحَا. (IAar, TA.) ― -b2- أَنْحَى عَلَى فُلَانٍ بِالسَّوْطِ [ He attacked such a one with the whip ], and بِالسَّيْفِ [ with the sword ]: and hence بِالتَّعْنِيفِ (tropical:) he accosted him with harsh, or rough, behaviour; syn. أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْهِ. (Har, p. 508.) ― -b3- أَنْحَى عَلَى الشَّىْءِ بِجَمِيعِ كَفِّهِ [ He seized the thing with his whole hand ]. (M, voce قَبَضَ [q. v.]). ― -b4- أَنْحَيْتُ عَلَى حَلْقِهِ السِّكِّينَ I applied the knife to, or put it across, his throat, or fauces; syn. عَرَضْتُهُ: and in like manner you say, نحى عليه بشفرته [but whether by this be meant نَحَّى or نَحَا is doubtful. (TA.) ― -b5- See 1.

5 تَنَحَّى ذ He, or it, removed; withdrew; went, or moved, away, or aside; (Msb;) or retired to a distance. (TA.) ― -b2- تَنَحَّى (TA, art. قعر,) signifies تكلّف ان يتكلّم كلامًا نَحْوِيًّا, i. e. تكلّف التكلّم على طريق النحاة. (IbrD.)

8 اِنْتَحَى ذ It fell, like a man's hand when he strikes with it upon his other hand; (L, TA, in art. ترح:) and, in prostration, he fell with his forehead to the ground, and rested upon his forehead, not upon the palms of his hands: mentioned by Sh, from 'Abd-Es-Samad Ibn- Hassán, on the authority of some of the Arabs: so says Az. (L and TA in that art.)

نَحْوٌ ذ The like of a thing: syn. مِثْلٌ. (TA.) ― -b2- Quantity, &c.; syn. مِقْدَارٌ. (TA.) ― -b3- A division, &c.; syn. قِسْمٌ. (TA.) ― -b4- نَحْوَهُ: see نَحَا. ― -b5- نَحْوُ الثَّلَاثَةِ About three. فِى نَحْوِ ثَلَاثِ سَاعَاتٍ In about three hours. ― -b6- عَرَفْتُهُ فِى نَحْوِ كَلَامِهِ and فى لَحْنِ كلامه and فى مِعْرَاضِ كلامه signify the same. (Msb in art. عرض.) See the last of these, voce عَرُوضٌ. ― -b7- اِتَّئِدْ عَلَى نَحْوِكَ, i. e. أَوِّنْ عَلَى قَدْرِكَ [or مِقْدَارِكَ]: see art. اون.

نَحْىٌ ذ : see نِحْى.

نِحْىٌ ذ A skin for holding liquids: (K:) or for clarified butter: (S, Msb, K:) as also ↓ نَحْىٌ, (K.)

شَدِيدُ النَّاحِيَةِ ذ (assumed tropical:) A hardy man. (TA, art. عرض.)

ذَاتُ النِّحْيَيْنِ ذ . Respecting what is said of the woman thus named, and of خَوَّات, in the S, see شرد.

مُتَنَجٍّ ذ Going, or being, away from (عَنْ) a place, person, or thing. ― -b2- مُتَنَحًّى [ A place to which to turn away, or back, from a thing; or to which one removes, withdraws, or retires afar off ]. (K, voce مَنْكَصٌ.) See مَنْكَصٌ and مَحْرِفٌ.

نَاحِيَةٌ ذ i. q. جَانِبٌ q. v., A side; a lateral, or an outward, or adjacent, part or portion. (K, &c.) ― -b2- An apartment of a house. (Mgh, voce حَيِّزٌ.) And the pl., نَوَاحٍ, The outer parts or regions of an animal. The sing. may often be rendered A part, or portion, of a place. ― -b3- نَاحِيَةٌ is of the measure فَاعِلَةٌ in the sense of the measure مَفْعُولَةٌ, [meaning مَنْحُوَّةٌ, a part, or the like, or a point, towards which one goes, or directs himself; a point of direction; ] because one goes, or directs himself, towards it: (Msb:) best rendered as above; adding, or part, region, district, quarter, or tract, considered with respect to its collocation or juxtaposition or direction, or considered as belonging to a whole: a vicinage, or neighbourhood: and a part of a country, a region, district, quarter, or tract, absolutely; a district; a province: often best rendered a side; or a region, district, quarter, or tract: or a part of a place, an apartment: see حَيِّزٌ, in art. حوز. ― -b4- Also A limit, bound, or boundary: see two tropical exs. of its pl. (نَوَاحٍ) voce حِنْوٌ, and another in a verse voce رَسُولٌ: or a remote side; syn. جَانِبٌ مُتَنَحٍّ: (Kz, in TA:) a tract of land. (KL.) See أُفُقٌ and جَانِبٌ. ― -b5- عَلَى نَاحِيَةٍ Beside, aside, or apart; like على جَانِبٍ and عَلى طَرَفٍ; and so نَاحِيَةً and فِى نَاحِيَةٍ, &c.: you say جَلَسَ فِى نَاحِيَةٍ مِنْهُمْ He sat aside, or apart, from them: and أَنَا فِى نَوَاحٍ مِنْ هٰذَا الأَمْرِ, expl. voce شَفَقٌ. And فِى نَاحِيَةِ كَذَا In the direction of such a thing: see أَشْرَى. ― -b6- هُوَ عَلَى نَاحِيَتِهِ He is keeping to his own side, following his own course: see جَدِيَّةٌ.

نُخَاعٌ ذ The spinal cord, or spinal marrow; (S, K, &c.;) what extends from the هَامَة through (فِى) the vertebræ to the end of the ذَنَب, like a cord of marrow. (Zj in his “ Khalk el-Insán. ”) See also شَلِيلٌ and البِخَاعُ.

أَنْخَعٌ ذ : see أَخْنَعُ.

نِخَافٌ ذ A boot: (IAar, K, TA:) or a boot much patched. (Az, TA.)

8 اِنْنَخَلَهُ ذ He cleared it [or sifted it ]; as also ↓ نَخَلَهُ and ↓ تَنَخَّلَهُ: (K [see سَفْسَفَهُ]:) or he took the best of it (S, Msb) to the utmost: (S:) or he chose the best of it for himself. (TA.)

نَخْلِىٌّ ذ A cultivator of palm-trees: see عَطَلٌ.
