alphabetical letter ه ذ هُ: the vowel of this pron. is sometimes, in a case of pause, transferred to the preceding letter: and this is always done in modern Arabic. ― -b2- هْ subjoined in هُنَّهْ, and the like: see أَبْيَضُ. ― -b3- The هَا, termed تَنْبِيهٌ, is said by some to be used as an inceptive, without any meaning but inception. (See ذا.) See كَلِمَةُ تَنْبِيهٍ in art. نبه: and see an ex. voce تَا. When followed by a pronoun, as هو, &c., it is best rendered Lo. ― -b4- ه of pausation: see remarks on a verse cited voce حِينٌ. ― -b5- بِهَا, in حَطَأَ بِهَا, and many phrases syn. therewith, is app. for بِا@سْتِهِ. See حَطَأَ.

Q. Q. 3 اِهْبَيَّخَ ذ ; (K;) and اِهْبَيَّخَتْ, aor. تَهْبَيِّخُ; inf. n. اـِهْبِيَّاخٌ; (TA;) He, (K,) and she, (TA,) walked with an elegant and a proud and self-conceited gait, with an affected inclining of the body from side to side. (K, TA.)

هَبَيَّخٌ ذ , of the measure فَعَيَّلٌ, (S,) A boy, or young man: and هَبَيَّخَةٌ a girl, or damsel: both in the dial. of Himyer. (L.) ― -b2- Also, the former, A soft boy, or young man: (K:) or the former and latter, respectively, a soft, thin-skinned, and plump, boy or young man, (S,) and girl or damsel: (S, K:) or a plump and goodly young man, and woman: (L:) or the latter, a tall and great woman: (JK:) [and hence, app., applied as an epithet, in the sense of long and large, to a woman's train, in the following verse, quoted by Az,] جَرَّتْ عَلَيْهِ الرِّيحُ ذَيْلًا أَنْبَخَا جَرَّ العَرُوسِ ذَيْلَهَا ا@لْهَبَيَّخَا (L.) [ The wind dragged over it a train of dusky colour, and abounding with dust, like as the bride drags her long and large train. ] ― -b3- Also, the latter, A damsel suckling, or that suckles. (M, K.) ― -b4- Also, the former, A stupid, and flabby, or flaccid, man. (K.) ― -b5- Also, a man in whom is no good. (K.) ― -b6- Also, A great valley. (K) ― -b7- And A large river. (K.)

هُبَعٌ ذ , applied to a young camel: a young camel brought forth in the end of the breedingtime. (K, voce رُبَعٌ, q. v.) See بُلَعٌ.

هَيْبَلِىٌّ ذ A Christian monk: see أَبِيلٌ.

مَهْبِلٌ ذ The place of gestation: see a verse cited voce مَحْبَلٌ.

1 هَباَ الرَّمَادُ ذ , (JK, TA,) aor. يَهْبُو, (TA,) The ashes became mixed with dust, and extinguished: (JK, TA:) and هَباَ الجَمْرُ. (M, art. رمد.)

هُبَةٌ ذ : see أَهْبَةٌ.

هَبْوَةٌ ذ Dust rising, or spreading, in the sky like smoke. (JK.)

هَبَاآءٌ ذ The motes that are seen in the rays of the sun: (TA:) see an ex. voce غُثَاآءٌ.

1 هتك ذ He rent open. (K, S.) ― -b2- هتك اللّٰه سِتْرَهُ God dishonour him: see سِتْرٌ.

هَتَّاكٌ ذ One who rends frequently tents and the like: see بَابٌ.

هَثَارَهُ ذ , for أَنَارَهُ: see ثور.

5 تَهَجَّعَ ذ He slept. (1001 Nights, ii. 321.)

هَجْعَةٌ ذ (assumed tropical:) The setting of a star. (Sgh in TA, art. شرط.) See شَرَطٌ. ― -b2- A light sleep in the first part of the night. (S.)

هَوْجَلٌ ذ , of a ship or boat, is smaller than the أَنْجَر. (O, TA, voce مَعَابِيرُ.) ― -b2- See De Sacy, Chrest. Arab., ii. 359.

هَجُولٌ ذ A fornicatress, or an adulteress: pl. هَجَائِلُ. (JK.)

1 هَجَمُ عَلَيْهِ ذ He came upon him suddenly, or at unawares, (Mgh, Msb, K,) or came in to him without permission, (K,) or without asking permission: (Mgh:) he invaded, assaulted, assailed, attacked, attempted, or ventured upon, him or it: he pounced upon him or it.

هَجْمَةٌ ذ , or, accord. to Kz, هَزِيعٌ, The third of the five divisions of the night. (TA.) See خُدْرَةٌ, and يَعْفُورٌ. ― -b2- As applied to camels, see عَائِضٌ and زِياَدَةٌ.

1 نَكَحَ فِى بَنِى فُلاَنٍ وَهَجَّنَ أَوْلَادَهُمْ ذ [ He married among the sons of such a one, and made their children to be base-born, or ignoble ]. (TA in art. بغل.)

هُجْنَةٌ ذ [ Meanness of race, in a horse]. (K, voce اـِعْراَبٌ.)

هَجِينٌ ذ One whose father is free, or an Arab, and whose mother is a slave. (S, K.) ― -b2- A horse [ half-blooded ] got by a stallion of generous race out of a mare not of such race: (S:) or got by an Arabian stallion out of a mare not of Arabian birth: (Msb:) or not of generous birth; a jade. (K.)

هَاجِنٌ ذ A girl not arrived at puberty, or a beast not yet fit to be covered: see an ex. voce جَلَّ.

1 هَجَاهُ ذ He censured, dispraised, reviled, or satirized him, (S, Msb, K,) in verse. (Msb, K) ― -b2- مَا هَجَوْتُ مِنْهُ شَيْئًا: see 1 in art. حجو.

3 هَاجَاهُ ذ , inf. n. مُهَاجَاةٌ, He contended with him in satirizing. See 4 in art. فحم.

أُمْجُوَّةٌ ذ , Dispraise, is like أُسْبُوبَةٌ, contr. of أُمْدُوحَةٌ.

10 اِسْتَهْدَفَ ذ He became a هَدَف, or butt. (Har, p. 65.) See رَتِيمَةٌ.

هَدَفٌ ذ A high or lofty building: see صَدَفٌ.

1 هَدَلَ ذ He uttered a cry: see هَدَرَ, in two places.

5 تَهَدَّلَ ذ It hung down; [ it dangled; ] said of a branch of a tree, (S, TA,) and of fruit; it hung loosely; said of the former. (TA.)

مِشْفَرٌ أَهْدَلُ ذ [ A camel's lip ] flaccid, or pendulous. (K, TA.)

1 هَدَمَ ذ He threw down, or pulled down, a building; (Msb;) pulled it to pieces; demolished it; destroyed it: (K:) [the last two explanations are the most correct, as is shown by the phrase] نَقَضَ البِنَاآءَ مِنْ عَيْرِ هَدْمِ [ He took to pieces the building without demolishing, or destroying ]: (S, A, Msb, K, * in art. قوض:) he ruined [a building, &c.]; reduced [it] to ruin. (Ham, p. 31.)

6 تَهَادَمَتِ الحِيطَانُ ذ [ The walls fell to ruin by degrees ]. (S, in art. دعو.)

7 اِنْهَدَمَ ذ It became thrown down, pulled down, pulled to pieces, demolished, or destroyed: and it fell in ruins, or to pieces; or became a ruin. ― -b2- اِنْهَدَمَ الحَائِطُ مِنْ مَكَانِهِ مِنْ غَيْرِ هَدْمٌ [ The wall fell in ruins, or to pieces, from its place, without being pulled to pieces ]. (Lth, in TA, art. قيض.)

الدَّمُ الدَّمُ وَالهَدَْمُ الهَدَْمُ ذ : see دَمْ.

هَدَمٌ ذ Earth that is dug from a pit or well: see حَفَرٌ.

هِدَمْلَةٌ ذ Food and drink: see فِطْحَلٌ.

هُدْنَةٌ عَلَى دَخْنٍ ذ An illusory truce: see دُخَانٌ.

1 هَدَاهُ ذ He directed him, or guided him, to the way; (K, * TA;) directed him aright; or caused him to take, or follow, a right way or course or direction. (K, TA.) See 8. ― -b2- هَدَى العَرُوسَ He sent [or conducted ] the bride (MA, KL) to her husband, (MA,) or to the house of her husband: (KL;) i. q. زَفَّهَا, (K in art. زف,) and so ↓ أَهْدَاهَا. (Msb in that art.) ― -b3- يَهْدِى meaning يُؤَدِّى: see an ex. in a verse cited voce طَبَعٌ.

6 تَهَادَنَا ذ They (two parties who had been at war) made a truce, each with the other. (T, art. نبذ.)

8 اِهْتَدَى ذ He became rightly directed; followed a right direction; (K;) went aright; as also ↓ هَدَى. (S.) ― -b2- He guided himself. ― -b3- He went a right way: went aright. ― -b4- لَا يَهْتَدِى اـِلَى جِهَةٍ He cannot go aright: or knows not the way that he would pursue; or knows not in what direction to go: sometimes said of a drunken man. ― -b5- لَا يَهْتَدِى لِأَمْرِهِ means He does not, or cannot, find the way to accomplish, or perform, his affair. ― -b6- اِهْتَدَى He found, (MA,) or took (KL,) the right way or road. (MA, KL.) ― -b7- دَاهِيَةُ لاَ يُهْتَدَى لَهَا, by which دَاهِيَةُ الغَبَرِ is expl. in the S and O, means لَا يُهْتَدَى للَّنَّجَاآءِ مِنْهَا, by which the same phrase is expl. in the JK: or it may be well rendered A calamity in relation to which one knows not the right course to pursue. ― -b8- اِهْتَدَى also signifies He continued to be rightly directed, or to follow a right dirertion: and he sought to be rightly directed, or to follow a right direction. (TA.) ― -b9- اِهَدَّى and اِهِدِّى, for اِهْتَدَى; like اِعَذَّرَ and اِعِذِّرَ, for اِعْتَذَرَ.

هَدْىٌ ذ A way, course, method, mode, or manner, of acting, or conduct, or proceeding, or the like; (Msb, K;) as also ↓ هِدْيَةٌ and ↓ هَدْيَةٌ: (K:) or to the second and third: and the first is pl. [or coll. gen. n.] of the last: (S:) and a god way, &c.: and calm, or placid, deportment; or calmness, or placidity, of deportment: (TA:) see also دَلٌ. ― -b2- هَدْىٌ [ Conduct, mode of life; manners ]. -A2- See هَدِىٌّ.

هُوَ عَلَى هُدًى ذ He is following, or he follows, a right direction. ― -b2- الهُدَى The Kur-án. (Bd, Jel in lxxii. 13, &c.)

هِدْيَةٌ ذ and هَدْيَةٌ: see هَدْيٌ.

هَدِيَّةٌ ذ [n. un. of هَدِىٌّ] A present; i. e. a thing sent to another in token of courtesy or honour: (Msb;) such as is termed طَرِيفٌ and لَطَفٌ. (JK.) ― -b2- ↓ هَدْىٌ and هَدِىٌّ [coll. gen. ns.] What one brings as an offering to Mekkeh, (K,) or to the Kaabeh, (Beyd, v. 2,) or to the Haram, (S, Mgh,) consisting of camels (Lth, S, Mgh, Msb) or other beasts, (Lth,) namely kine or sheep or goats, (Mgh,) to be sacrificed, (TA,) and of goods or commodities: (Lth:) n. un. with ة. (S, &c.) ― -b3- Also, Camels, absolutely. (TA.) ― -b4- هَدِىٌّ also One who is entitled to respect, or honour, or protection: so in a verse cited voce اِسْتَبَاآءَ. (ISk in T in art. بوأ.)
