(S, A. *) اخاض القَوْمُ خَيْلَهُمُ المَاآءَ [ The people, or company of men, made their horses to wade, or ford, through the water ] is said when they wade, or ford, with their horses through the water. (TA.) اخاض القَوْمُ: and اخاضوا المَاآءَ: [which are evidently elliptical phrases:] and اخاض الفَرَسَ: see 1, second sentence. ― -b2- اخاض البَاطِلَ: see 1. -A2- اخاض المَاآءُ The water admitted of being walked [or waded or forded ] in or through: contr. to general rule; being intrans. while the unaugmented verb is trans.
