Root entry · 1 derived lemma1 خَدَشَهُ ذ , (Az, S, A, &c.,) aor. خَدْشٌ, (S, Msb, K,) inf. n. خَدْشٌ, (Mgh, Msb,) He scratched him, or it, (namely, the face, Az, S, Mgh,) with the nails, so as to cause bleeding or not; (Az, S, * Mgh, TA;) i. q. خَمَشَهُ: (Az, A, K, TA:) he wounded him in the outer skin, so as to make it bleed or not: (Msb:) he lacerated it, namely, the skin, (A, K,) little or much: or tore off its surface with a stick or the like. (K.) You say, خَدَشَتْ وَجْهَهَا عِنْدَ المُصِيبَةِ She scratched her face with her nails in the upper parts of what appeared thereof, so as to make it bleed or not, on the occasion of affliction.
