وعظ

عِظَةٌ ذ : see 1. ― -b2- [As a simple subst.,] it has for its pl. عِظَاتٌ: and is syn. with ↓ مَوْعِظَةٌ: (TA:) [the pl. of the latter is مَوَاعِظُ.] It is said in trad., لَأَجْعَلَنَّكَ عِظَةً I will assuredly make thee a warning, or an example, to others. (TA.) And in the Kur, [ii. 276,] فَمَنْ جَاآءَهُ مِنْ رَبِّهِ ↓ مَوْعِظَةٌ [ But he to whom cometh an exhortation, or an admonition, or warning, from his Lord ]. (TA.) And ↓ القَتْلُوبِالمَوْعِظَةِ [ The slaying by way of warning ], mentioned in a trad., is when the innocent is slain in order that he who gives reason for suspicion may become warned. (TA.)
