جون

جُونَةٌ جون جونه جونة The quality [i. e. colour ], in horses, denoted by [ the epithet ] جَوْنٌ; like غُبْسةٌ and دُهْمَةٌ; (S;) in horses, i. q. جَوْنَةٌ: (K:) and in the sun, also, the quality denoted by جَوْنَةٌ [as fem. of جَوْنٌ, q. v.]: and blackness; as in the saying, لَا أَفْعَلُهُ حَتَّى تَبْيَضَّ جُونَةُ القَارِ [ I will not do it until the blackness of pitch, or tar, become white ]: but if you say القَارِ ↓ جَوْنَةُ, the meaning is the خَابِية [ smeared with tar, or pitch ]. (S.) -A2- A small basket (سُلَيْلَة), (K,) or سَفَط, (K in art. جأن,) of a round form, (TA,) that is with the sellers of perfumes, (S, K,) used for containing their perfumes: (K in art. جأن:) called in Persian شِيشَهْ دَانٌ [ a receptacle for bottles or the like ]: (KL:) originally with ء: (K:) or sometimes pronounced with ء: (S:) El-Fárisee approved the suppression of the ء: (M, TA:) pl. جُوَنٌ.
