(TA.) ↓ تهافت is mostly used with reference to something evil; (TA;) [as] يَتَهَافَتُونَ فِى النَّارِ [ They shall fall successively into the fire of hell ]; (TA, from a trad.;) [and] تَهَافَتَ الفَرَاشُ فِى النَّارِ The moths fell successively into the fire; (S;) [and] تَهَافَبَ القَوْمُ The people fell down successively dead; (TA;) [and] تَهَافَتُوا عَلَيْهِ They fell upon him successively.
