Root entry · 1 derived lemma3 حَاذَاهُ ذ , (S, Mgh, Msb, K,) inf. n. مُحَاذَاةٌ (Msb, TA) and حَذَاآءٌ, (Msb,) He, (Mgh, Msb,) and it, (Mgh,) was, or became, over against, or opposite to, him, or it; (S, Mgh, TA;) faced, or fronted, him, or it; (TA;) syn. اآزَاهُ, (Msb, * K,) and قَابَلَهُ; (TA;) as also ↓ حَذَاهُ, aor. يَحْذُو, (Mgh, Msb,) inf. n. حَذْوٌ: (Msb:) [and] the latter, (S,) or each, (Har p. 43,) signifies he sat over against, or opposite to, him, or it. (S, and Har ibid.) رَأْسَهَامِنَ الشَّعَرِ وَلَا يَسْتَرْسِلُ ↓ مَا يَحْذُو means ما يُحَاذِيهِ [i. e. What is against, or opposite to, her head, of the hair, and does not hang down below it]. (Mgh. [See another ex. in an explanation of اآخِرَةٌ.]) One also says, أَتَيْتُ أَرْضًا بَقْلُهَا عَلَى أَفْوَاهِ غَنَمِهَا ↓ قَدْ حَذَا I came to a land the herbs of which were opposite to the mouths of its sheep, or goats, not rising beyond them. (Sh, TA.) And بِحِذَاآءِ هٰذِهِ الشَّجَرَةِ ↓ تَحَذَّ Be thou over against, or opposite to, this tree. (TA.) ― -b2- حَاذَتْهَا, said of a girl, She matched her, namely, another girl; she was, or became, her match, fellow, or equal; syn. تَارَبَتْهَا. (A and TA in art. ترب.) ― -b3- [Hence مُحَاذَاةٌ signifying A conformity, a mutual resemblance, or a correspondence, with regard to sound, of two words occurring near together; like اِزْدِوَاجٌ &c.: see art. زوج.]
