عصى

1 عَصَاهُ ذ , aor. يَعْصِيهِ, inf. n. عَصْىٌ and مَعْصِيَةٌ (S, Msb, K, TA) and عِصْيَانٌ, (TA, and so in some copies of the S,) or this last is a simple subst., (Msb,) He ([for instance] a slave, Msb, TA) disobeyed him, or rebelled against him, (S, K, TA,) i. e., his master; (Msb, TA;) as also ↓ عاصاهُ, (S, Msb, K, TA,) inf. n. مُعَاصَاةٌ; (TA;) and عَلَيْهِ ↓ استعصى, (S,) meaning he opposed him, or resisted him, and did not obey him, [or he rebelled against him, ] namely, his prince, or commander. (TA.) [See also an ex. of the first in a verse cited voce زُجٌّ] فُلَانٌ يَعْصِى الرِيحَ means (assumed tropical:) Such a one faces the quarter from which the wind blows, not opposing his side to the wind. (TA.)
