ضَغَطَهُ ذ , (S, Msb, K,) aor. ضَغَطَ , (S, Msb,) inf. n. ضَغْطٌ, (S, Mgh, Msb,) He pressed him; pushed him; (S, Msb, K;) squeezed him; (Mgh, * Msb, K;) against (اـِلَى, S, Msb, K, [and عَلَى,]) a thing, (K,) or a wall, (S, Msb,) and the like, (S,) and the ground: (TA:) he straitened him: he overcame, subdued, or overpowered, him; or he constrained him. (TA.) It is said in a trad., لَتُضْغَطُنَّ عَلَى بَابِ الجَنَّةِ Ye shall assuredly be pressed, or pushed, against the gate of Paradise. (TA.) You say of a tight boot, ضَغَطَ رِجْلَهُ [ It compressed, or pinched, his foot ]. (K in art. حزق.) And you say also, ضَغَطَ عَلَيْهِ, and ↓ اِضْتَغَطَ, (Lh, TA,) which latter, by rule, should be اِضْطَغَطَ, (TA,) (assumed tropical:) He treated him with hardness, severity, or rigour, with respect to a debt or the like. (Lh, TA.)
