(from previous page) ⟵ Al-Bukhari extracted it in the Book of Rulings, Chapter: What is disliked about eagerness for leadership, number one: He said to him: "Indeed, you are a weak man," and this statement is a frankness in front of a person, no doubt it is heavy on the soul, and it may affect you for someone like the Prophet (peace be upon him) to say to you: Indeed, you are a weak man, but honesty dictates this, to be frank with a person about his true description; if strong, then strong, and if weak, then weak.
This is advice: 'You are a weak man,' and there is no harm for a person if he says to someone, for example: 'You have such and such qualities,' by way of advice, not by way of insult and reproach, for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'You are a weak man.'
The second: He said: 'And I love for you what I love for myself,' and this is from the good character of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); when the first sentence contained something of a wound, he said: 'And I love for you what I love for myself,' meaning: I did not say that to you except that I love for you what I love for myself.
The third: He said: 'So do not be a commander over two,' meaning: do not be a leader over two, and anything more than that is even more so.
The meaning is that the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade him from being a commander because he is weak, and leadership requires a strong, trustworthy person, a strong person who has authority and a sharp word; when he speaks, he acts, and he is not weak before people, because if people deem a person weak, he retains no respect among them, and the lowly person (luka' ibn luka') becomes bold against him, and the person becomes nothing; but if he is strong and firm in the cause of Allah, not overstepping the limits of Allah (Mighty and Majestic is He), and not falling short of the authority that Allah has granted him, then this is the true commander.
The fourth: He said: 'And do not be in charge of the wealth of an orphan,' and the orphan is the one whose father died before he reached puberty; the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade him from being in charge of the orphan's wealth, because the orphan's wealth requires [care].
