مَا زِلْنَا وَنَحْنُ بِالْمَغْرِبِ نَسْمَعُ أَنَّهُ ظَهَرَ بِمِصْرَ عَالِمٌ بِالْعَرَبِيَّةِ يُقَالُ لَهُ « ابْنُ هِشَامٍ أَنْحَى مِنْ سِيبَوَيْهِ

While still in Morocco, we kept hearing reports of an Arabic scholar who had emerged in Egypt, of whom it was said, "Ibn Hisham is a greater grammarian than Sibawayh."

إِنَّ ابْنَ هِشَامٍ عَلَى عِلْمٍ جَمٍّ يَشْهَدُ بِعُلُوِّ قَدْرِهِ فِي صِنَاعَةِ النَّحْوِ

Ibn Hisham possessed a vast store of knowledge that confirmed his preeminence in the field of grammar.

وَكَانَ يَنْحُو فِي طَرِيقَتِهِ مَنْحَاةَ أَهْلِ الْمَوْصِلِ الَّذِينَ اقْتَفَوْا أَثَرَ ابْنِ جِنِّي وَاتَّبَعُوا مُصْطَلَحَ تَعْلِيمِهِ

His methodology mirrored that of the Mosul school, who had adopted the path and technical terminology established by Ibn Jinni.

فَأَتَى مِنْ ذَلِكَ بِشَيْءٍ عَجِيبٍ دَالٍّ عَلَى قُوَّةِ مَلَكَتِهِ وَاطِّلَاعِهِ
