مَظْهَرٌ أَصْبَحَ مَأْلُوفًا لَنَا اعْتَدْنَا عَلَيْهِ، بَلْ نَتَطَلَّعُ إِلَيْهِ، نُنْكِرُ غَيْرَهُ، فَلَا حَدِيثَ مَعَهُ مُتَّصِلٌ، وَلَا رَاحَةَ فِيهِ وَلَا طُمَأْنِينَةَ، وَلَوْ كَانَ بَيْنَنَا ثَقِيلُ الْجِسْمِ، أَوْ مُتَوَرِّمُ الْمَفَاصِلِ أَوِ الْمُتَقَدِّمُ فِي السِّنِّ فَإِنَّهُ يُتَوَقَّعُ مِنْهُ هَذَا الْقِيَامُ، وَهَذَا الْجُلُوسُ. وَلَوْ رَأَى بَعْضُنَا مُجْتَمَعَ آبَائِنَا لَقَالُوا مَا أَثْقَلَهُ وَمَا أَجْمَدَهُ! وَلَوْ رَأَى آبَاؤُنَا مُجْتَمَعَنَا قَالُوا مَا أَسْفَهَهُ وَأَسْمَجَهُ، أَمَّا أَنَا فَمَعَ آبَائِي فِي رَأْيِهِمْ... وَلَا عَجَبَ! مَلْحُوظَاتِي. الْحَيَاةُ الِاجْتِمَاعِيَّةُ. لِي. وِزَارَةُ التَّعْلِيمِ.

مَظْهَرٌ أَصْبَحَ مَأْلُوفًا لَنَا اعْتَدْنَا عَلَيْهِ، بَلْ نَتَطَلَّعُ إِلَيْهِ، نُنْكِرُ غَيْرَهُ، فَلَا حَدِيثَ مَعَهُ مُتَّصِلٌ، وَلَا رَاحَةَ فِيهِ وَلَا طُمَأْنِينَةَ.
It has become a familiar sight, one we are accustomed to—or rather, one we look forward to, rejecting anything else, even though it offers no real conversation, no comfort, and no peace.
وَلَوْ كَانَ بَيْنَنَا ثَقِيلُ الْجِسْمِ، أَوْ مُتَوَرِّمُ الْمَفَاصِلِ أَوِ الْمُتَقَدِّمُ فِي السِّنِّ فَإِنَّهُ يُتَوَقَّعُ مِنْهُ هَذَا الْقِيَامُ، وَهَذَا الْجُلُوسُ.
Even if someone among us is heavy-set, suffers from swollen joints, or is advanced in age, this constant standing and sitting is still expected of them.
وَلَوْ رَأَى بَعْضُنَا مُجْتَمَعَ آبَائِنَا لَقَالُوا مَا أَثْقَلَهُ وَمَا أَجْمَدَهُ!
If some of us were to see the society of our fathers, they would call it heavy and rigid.
