هذِهِ الشَّمْسُ الْعَجيب نقرَا: تبدو بِحَجْمِ كُرَةٍ لا يَزِيدُ قُطْرُها عَنْ رُبْعِ مِثْرٍ، وَتَبْدو كَأَنَّهَا رَغِيفُ خُبْرٍ، وَلَكِنَّ في أَمْرِها أَنَّ حَجْمَها يَفوقُ حَجْمَ الأَرْضِ بِأَكْثَرَ مِنْ مِلْيونِ مَرَّةٍ، وَلَكِنَّ بُعْدَها عَنا بِأَكْثَرَ مِنْ تِسْعِينَ مِلْيونَ مِيلِ يَجْعَلُنَا نَرَاهَا صَغِيرَةً، إِنَّهَا الشَّمْسُ نَحْنُ نُرَدِّدُ كَثيراً : الْماءُ عِمادُ الْحَياةِ، وَنَقولُ : الشَّمْسُ عِمادُ الْحَياةِ، فَلَوْلا الشَّمْسُ لَغَرِقْنا في الظَّلامِ ، وَلَوْلا الشَّمْسُ ما عاش إنْسانٌ، وَلَا حَيَوانٌ، وَلَا نَبَاتٌ؛ إِنَّهَا تُغَدِّي أَوْراقَ النَّباتِ ، وَتَجْعَلُ لِمارَها تَنْضَحُ ، فَيَأْكُلُ مِنْهَا الإِنْسانُ وَالْحَيَوانُ . لَوْلا الشَّمْسُ، ما اسْتَطَعْنا أَنْ نَحْسِبَ الزَّمانَ، وَلا أَنْ نُحَدِّدَ اليَوْمَ ، وَالشّـ وَالْعامَ. وَالشَّمْسُ مَصْدَرُ الطَّاقَةِ وَالدِّفْءِ، وَالطَّاقَةُ الَّتي تُوَلِّدُها تَأْتِينَا بِقَدَرٍ مُحَدَّدٍ، لَوْ رَادَ لاحْتَرَقَتِ الأَرْضُ، وَلَوْ نَقَصَ لَتَجَمَّدَتِ الْمِياهُ، فَسُبْحانَ اللَّهِ الَّذِي خَلَقَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ بِقَدَرٍ! 22

This is the sun, the wonder. We read: It appears the size of a ball whose diameter is no more than a quarter of a meter, and it looks like a loaf of bread, but the wonder of it is that its size exceeds the size of the Earth by more than a million times, but its distance from us of more than ninety million miles makes us see it as small; it is the sun. We repeat often: Water is the pillar of life, and we say: The sun is the pillar of life. If it were not for the sun, we would have drowned in darkness, and if it were not for the sun, no human, animal, or plant would have lived; it nourishes the leaves of the plant and makes its fruits ripen, so humans and animals eat from it.
لَوْلا الشَّمْسُ، ما اسْتَطَعْنا أَنْ نَحْسِبَ الزَّمانَ، وَلا أَنْ نُحَدِّدَ اليَوْمَ ، وَالشّـ وَالْعامَ.
If it were not for the sun, we would not have been able to calculate time, nor determine the day, the month, and the year.
وَالشَّمْسُ مَصْدَرُ الطَّاقَةِ وَالدِّفْءِ، وَالطَّاقَةُ الَّتي تُوَلِّدُها تَأْتِينَا بِقَدَرٍ مُحَدَّدٍ، لَوْ رَادَ لاحْتَرَقَتِ الأَرْضُ، وَلَوْ نَقَصَ لَتَجَمَّدَتِ الْمِياهُ، فَسُبْحانَ اللَّهِ الَّذِي خَلَقَ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ بِقَدَرٍ! 22
The sun is the source of energy and warmth, and the energy it generates comes to us in a specific measure; if it increased, the Earth would burn, and if it decreased, the waters would freeze. Glory be to God who created everything in measure!
