بَيْنَمَا كَانَ الرَّاعِي يَرْعَى غَنَمَهُ فِي الْبَرِّيَّةِ، ابْتَعَدَ خَروفٌ عَنِ الْقَطِيعِ؛ فَهَجَمَ عَلَيْهِ ذِئْبٌ؛ لِيَأْكُلَهُ.

(from previous page) ⟵ Indeed, they are the foolish ones, but they do not know. While the shepherd was herding his sheep in the wilderness, a lamb strayed from the flock; then a wolf attacked it to eat it.

فَقَالَ لَهُ الْخَروفُ: إِنَّ الرَّاعِيَ أَرْسَلَنِي إِلَيْكَ لِتَأْكُلَنِي، وَلَكِنَّهُ أَمَرَني أَنْ أُغَنِّيَ لَكَ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَأْكُلَنِي.

The sheep said, 'The shepherd sent me to you to be eaten, but he ordered me to sing for you first.'

فَقَالَ الذِّئْبُ: هَلْ صَوْتُكَ حَسَنٌ؟
