أَضْوَاءٌ مِنَ الْمَوْلِدِ السَّعِيدِ

Lights from the blessed birth.

لَقَدْ وُلِدَ، عَلَى كُلِّ حَالٍ، فِي ذَلِكَ الْعَامِ.

He was born in that year, after all.

أَيُّ عِيدَيْنِ سَعِيدَيْنِ شَهِدَتْهُمَا «جَزِيرَةُ الْعَرَبِ»!

What two joyous festivals the Arabian Peninsula witnessed!

صَدَقْتَ يَا «صَلَاحُ».

You are right, Salah.

فَقَدْ كَانَ خَلَاصُ الْكَعْبَةِ مِنْ شَرِّ الْغُزَاةِ مِنْ أَسْعَدِ أَعْيَادِ «قُرَيْش»، يُبَشِّرُهُمْ بِمَا يَلِيهِ مِنْ سَعَادَاتٍ.

The salvation of the Kaaba from the evil of the invaders was one of the happiest festivals for Quraish, signaling the happiness that would follow.

كَانَ ذَلِكَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ أَشْبَهَ شَيْءٍ بِنَجْمِ الْفَجْرِ: يُؤْذِنُ بِالصَّبَاحِ، وَيُبَشِّرُ بِنُورِ الشَّمْسِ.

That great victory was like the morning star: it heralds the dawn and promises the light of the sun.

يَا لَهَا مِنْ ذِكْرَيَاتٍ عَطِرَةٍ، بَاقِيَةٍ عَلَى مَرِّ الْأَيَّامِ وَالشُّهُورِ!

What fragrant memories, enduring through the passage of days and months!

بَلْ خَالِدَةٍ عَلَى مَرِّ الْأَجْيَالِ وَالدُّهُورِ.

Indeed, they are eternal through the passage of generations and eras.

يَا لَهَا مِنْ مُفَاجَأَةٍ سَعِيدَةٍ!

What a happy surprise!

فَكَيْفَ تَلَقَّاهَا وَالِدُ الرَّسُولِ؟

How did the Messenger’s father receive the news?

تَلَقَّاهَا جَدُّ الرَّسُولِ ﷺ كَمَا يَتَلَقَّى الْإِنْسَانُ أَسْعَدَ أَمَانِيِّهِ.

The Messenger’s grandfather received it as any man would receive his most cherished wish.

أَكَانَ وَالِدُ الرَّسُولِ مُسَافِرًا؟

Was the Messenger’s father traveling?

كَانَ مُسَافِرًا لِغَايَةٍ بَعِيدَةٍ، لَمْ يَعُدْ مِنْهَا إِلَى الْيَوْمِ.

He had traveled to a distant place, from which he has not returned to this day.

إِلَى الْيَوْمِ ؟!

To this day?!

وَرُبَّمَا طَالَتْ فَاسْتَغْرَقَتْ آلَافَ السِّنِينَ.

Perhaps the journey was long, lasting thousands of years.

مُحَمَّدٌ الْيَتِيمُ

Muhammad the Orphan.

لَقَدْ فَهِمْتُ مَا تَعْنِيهِ، وَمَا أَدْرِي كَيْفَ غَابَ عَنْ ذَاكِرَتِي أَنَّ وَالِدَ الرَّسُولِ مَاتَ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَكْتَحِلَ عَيْنَاهُ بِرُؤْيَةِ مَوْلِدِهِ الْعَظِيمِ !

I understand what you mean; I do not know how it slipped my mind that the Messenger’s father died before he could lay eyes on his newborn son.

فَلَا عَجَبَ إِذَا وَجَدَ الْجَدُّ فِي حَفِيدِهِ كَثِيرًا مِنَ الْعَزَاءِ: يُخَفِّفُ عَلَيْهِ مَا لَقِيَهُ مِنْ تَبْرِيحٍ، وَيُلَطِّفُ عَلَيْهِ مُصَابَهُ فِي وَلَدِهِ «عَبْدِ اللَّهِ»، الَّذِي أَتَتْهُ الْمَنِيَّةُ فِي أَوَّلِ مَرَاحِلِ شَبَابِهِ.

It is no wonder, then, that the grandfather found great consolation in his grandson. The boy eased his suffering and softened the blow of losing his son Abdullah, who met his end in the prime of his youth.

لَا رَيْبَ أَنَّهُ وَجَدَ فِي حَفِيدِهِ رَاحَةً وَسَلْوَى.

He undoubtedly found rest and solace in his grandson.

وَلَا عَجَبَ إِذَا خَصَّهُ بِمَوْفُورِ عِنَايَتِهِ.

It is no wonder he showered him with such abundant care.

وَلَمْ يَكَدْ يَرَى مُحَيَّاهُ الْبَاهِرَ حَتَّى تَوَسَّمَ فِيهِ الْخَيْرَ كُلَّهُ، وَامْتَلَأَتْ نَفْسُهُ بَهْجَةً لِمَرْآهُ، وَأَحَسَّ - فِي أَعْمَاقِ قَلْبِهِ - أَنَّ لِحَفِيدِهِ شَأْنًا عَظِيمًا، وَأَسْمَاهُ مُحَمَّدًا.

He had barely seen his radiant face when he discerned all goodness in him. His soul filled with joy at the sight of him, and he felt—in the depths of his heart—that his grandson was destined for greatness, so he named him Muhammad.
