اعْتَذَرَ الْجَارُ عَنِ الصَّوْتِ الْعَالِي، وَجَلَسُوا مَعًا يَشْرَبُونَ الشَّايَ، وَرَوَى لَهُمْ قِصَصًا مِنْ زَمَنٍ بَعِيدٍ عَنِ الْقَاهِرَةِ الْقَدِيمَةِ وَذِكْرَيَاتِهِ فِي الْمِهَنِ الْيَدَوِيَّةِ.

وَمُنْذُ ذَلِكَ الْيَوْمِ، أَصْبَحَ الْجَارُ يَخْفِضُ صَوْتَ الْأَغَانِيَ، وَصَارَ الْجِيرَانُ يُلْقُونَ عَلَيْهِ التَّحِيَّةَ كُلَّ صَبَاحٍ، وَأَصْبَحَ بَيْتَهُ مَقْصِدَ الْأَطْفَالِ؛ لِيَسْمَعُوا مِنْهُ الْحِكَايَاتِ.
