- In linguistic terms, eloquence denotes clarity and manifest expression.
- يُقَالُ: أَفْصَحَ الصَّبِيُّ فِي مَنْطِقِهِ إِذَا بَانَ وَظَهَرَ كَلَامُهُ.
- We say a child has become eloquent when his speech is clear and easy to understand.
- وَتَقَعُ فِي الِاصْطِلَاحِ وَصْفًا لِلْكَلِمَةِ وَالْكَلَامِ وَالْمُتَكَلِّمِ.
- As a technical term, it describes the word, the speech, and the speaker.
- فَفَصَاحَةُ الْكَلِمَةِ سَلَامَتُهَا مِنْ تَنَافُرِ الْحُرُوفِ وَمُخَالَفَةِ الْقِيَاسِ، وَالْغَرَابَةِ،
- The eloquence of a word requires it to be free from discordant letters, deviations from grammatical rules, and obscurity.
- فَتَنَافُرُ الْحُرُوفِ وَصْفٌ فِي الْكَلِمَةِ يُوجِبُ ثِقَلَهَا عَلَى اللِّسَانِ وَعُسْرَ النُّطْقِ بِهَا
- Discordant letters make a word heavy on the tongue and difficult to pronounce.
- نَحْوُ الظَّسِّ لِلْمَوْضِعِ الْخَشِنِ، وَالْهُعْخُعِ، لِنَبَاتٍ تَرْعَاهُ الْإِبِلُ، وَالنُّقَاخِ لِلْمَاءِ الْعَذْبِ الصَّافِي، وَالْمُسْتَشْزِرِ لِلْمَفْتُولِ.
- Examples include 'al-zass' for rough ground, 'al-hu'hu'' for a plant grazed by camels, 'al-nuqakh' for fresh, clear water, and 'al-mustashzir' for something twisted.
- وَمُخَالَفَةُ الْقِيَاسِ: كَوْنُ الْكَلِمَةِ غَيْرَ جَارِيَةٍ عَلَى الْقَانُونِ الصَّرْفِيِّ، كَجَمْعِ بُوقٍ عَلَى بُوقَاتٍ فِي قَوْلِ الْمُتَنَبِّي.
- Violation of analogy refers to a word that does not follow standard morphological rules, such as the plural 'buqat' for 'buq' found in the poetry of al-Mutanabbi.
