الْآنَ فَهِمْتُ مَا تَعْنِيهِ. بَيْنَ عَصْرِ الظَّلَامِ وَمَطْلَعِ الْفَجْرِ. مِنْ أَرْبَابِهِمُ الْمُضْحِكَةِ صَنَمٌ اسْمُهُ سَعْدٌ بِسَاحِلِ جُدَّةَ، وَهُوَ صَخْرَةٌ طَوِيلَةٌ. وَذَاتَ يَوْمٍ جَاءَهُ أَعْرَابِيٌّ وَمَعَهُ جِمَالٌ لِيَتَبَرَّكَ بِهِ، فَلَمَّا اقْتَرَبَتِ الْجِمَالُ مِنَ الصَّنَمِ فَزِعَتْ هَارِبَةً مِنْهُ، فَغَضِبَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ، وَرَمَى ذَلِكَ الصَّنَمَ بِحَجَرٍ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: لَا بَارَكَ اللَّهُ فِيكَ مِنْ صَنَمٍ، لَقَدْ نَفَّرْتَ عَلَيَّ إِبِلِي. لَقَدْ ذَكَّرَتْنِي هَذِهِ الْقِصَّةُ وَالشَّيْءُ بِالشَّيْءِ يُذْكَرُ، بِمَا حَدَثَ لِأَعْرَابِيٍّ آخَرَ مَعَ ذِي الْخَلَصَةِ. أَكَانَ ذُو الْخَلَصَةِ أَيْضًا مِنْ أَصْنَامِ الْعَرَبِ؟ نَعَمْ. بَيْنَ مَكَّةَ وَالْيَمَنِ، وَكَانَتِ الْعَرَبُ كُلُّهَا تُعَلِّمُهُ. وَقَدْ قَصَدَ إِلَيْهِ أَحَدُ الْأَعْرَابِ لِيُحَقِّقَ لَهُ أَمَلًا، فَلَمَّا أَعْجَزَهُ دَرْكُهُ وَالظَّفَرُ بِهِ، شَتَمَ الصَّنَمَ وَلَعَنَهُ، ثُمَّ وَلَّى غَاضِبًا. أَيُّ ظَلَامٍ دَامِسٍ كَانَ يُخَيِّمُ عَلَى أَرْضِ الْعَرَبِ فِي ذَلِكَ الْعَصْرِ! نَعَمْ. وَأَيُّ نُورٍ سَاطِعٍ أَضَاءَ عَلَيْهَا بِمَوْلِدِ الرَّسُولِ ﷺ! مَا أَصْدَقَ الشَّاعِرَ إِذْ يَقُولُ: الْقَبَائِلُ الْمُتَعَادِيَةُ. وَالشَّيْءُ لَا يُعْرَفُ مِقْدَارُهُ إِلَّا إِذَا قِيسَ إِلَى ضِدِّهِ! أَنْتَ عَلَى حَقٍّ فِيمَا تَقُولُ. فَقَدْ كَانَ هَذَا الشَّعْبُ فِي لَيْلِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ الْمُظْلِمِ، تُعَادِي كُلُّ قَبِيلَةٍ مِنْهُ الْقَبِيلَةَ الْأُخْرَى، فَيَحْتَدِمُ النِّزَاعُ، وَتَقَعُ الْحَرْبُ الطَّاحِنَةُ. نُبْلُ الْعَرَبِ. فَلَمَّا أَضَاءَ نُورُ الْإِسْلَامِ سَبِيلَ الرَّشَادِ، وَصَقَلَ نُفُوسَهُمْ، وَقَضَى عَلَى أَوْهَامِهِمْ، لَمْ يَلْبَثْ أَنْ كَشَفَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ الشَّعْبِ النَّبِيلِ أَشْرَفَ مَزَايَاهُ، وَأَكْرَمَ صِفَاتِهِ؛ فَاتَّخَذَ مِنْ هُيَامِهِ بِالْحُرِّيَّةِ، وَتَقَشُّفِهِ فِي طَعَامِهِ، وَاحْتِمَالِهِ خُشُونَةَ الْعَيْشِ، وَصَبْرِهِ عَلَى الْمَصَائِبِ وَالْخُطُوبِ، أَدَاةً لِلتَّغَلُّبِ عَلَى أَعْدَاءِ الْعَرَبِ وَقَهْرِهِمْ عَلَى قِلَّةِ مَا يَمْلِكُ ذَلِكَ الشَّعْبُ الْكَرِيمُ مِنْ عَتَادٍ وَمَالٍ.

- Among their ridiculous lords was an idol named Sa'd on the coast of Jeddah, which was nothing more than a tall rock.
- وَذَاتَ يَوْمٍ جَاءَهُ أَعْرَابِيٌّ وَمَعَهُ جِمَالٌ لِيَتَبَرَّكَ بِهِ، فَلَمَّا اقْتَرَبَتِ الْجِمَالُ مِنَ الصَّنَمِ فَزِعَتْ هَارِبَةً مِنْهُ.
- One day, a Bedouin brought his camels to seek its blessing, but as they neared the idol, they bolted in terror.
- فَغَضِبَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ، وَرَمَى ذَلِكَ الصَّنَمَ بِحَجَرٍ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: لَا بَارَكَ اللَّهُ فِيكَ مِنْ صَنَمٍ، لَقَدْ نَفَّرْتَ عَلَيَّ إِبِلِي.
- The Bedouin grew angry, threw a stone at the idol, and shouted, 'May God grant you no blessing! You have scared off my camels.'
- لَقَدْ ذَكَّرَتْنِي هَذِهِ الْقِصَّةُ وَالشَّيْءُ بِالشَّيْءِ يُذْكَرُ، بِمَا حَدَثَ لِأَعْرَابِيٍّ آخَرَ مَعَ ذِي الْخَلَصَةِ.
- This story reminds me—as one thing leads to another—of what happened to another Bedouin with Dhu al-Khalasah.
- أَكَانَ ذُو الْخَلَصَةِ أَيْضًا مِنْ أَصْنَامِ الْعَرَبِ؟
- Was Dhu al-Khalasah also one of the idols of the Arabs?
- نَعَمْ. بَيْنَ مَكَّةَ وَالْيَمَنِ، وَكَانَتِ الْعَرَبُ كُلُّهَا تُعَلِّمُهُ.
- Yes. It stood between Mecca and Yemen, and all the Arabs knew of it.
- وَقَدْ قَصَدَ إِلَيْهِ أَحَدُ الْأَعْرَابِ لِيُحَقِّقَ لَهُ أَمَلًا، فَلَمَّا أَعْجَزَهُ دَرْكُهُ وَالظَّفَرُ بِهِ، شَتَمَ الصَّنَمَ وَلَعَنَهُ، ثُمَّ وَلَّى غَاضِبًا.
- A Bedouin once went to it with a hope in mind, but when the idol failed to grant his request, he cursed it and walked away in a rage.
- أَيُّ ظَلَامٍ دَامِسٍ كَانَ يُخَيِّمُ عَلَى أَرْضِ الْعَرَبِ فِي ذَلِكَ الْعَصْرِ!
- What pitch-black darkness hung over the land of the Arabs in that era!
- نَعَمْ. وَأَيُّ نُورٍ سَاطِعٍ أَضَاءَ عَلَيْهَا بِمَوْلِدِ الرَّسُولِ ﷺ!
- Indeed. And what a brilliant light illuminated it with the birth of the Messenger, peace be upon him!
- مَا أَصْدَقَ الشَّاعِرَ إِذْ يَقُولُ: وَالشَّيْءُ لَا يُعْرَفُ مِقْدَارُهُ إِلَّا إِذَا قِيسَ إِلَى ضِدِّهِ!
- How true the poet’s words: 'The value of a thing is only known when measured against its opposite.'
- أَنْتَ عَلَى حَقٍّ فِيمَا تَقُولُ.

- فَقَدْ كَانَ هَذَا الشَّعْبُ فِي لَيْلِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ الْمُظْلِمِ، تُعَادِي كُلُّ قَبِيلَةٍ مِنْهُ الْقَبِيلَةَ الْأُخْرَى، فَيَحْتَدِمُ النِّزَاعُ، وَتَقَعُ الْحَرْبُ الطَّاحِنَةُ.
- For these people lived in the dark night of Jahiliyyah, where every tribe was hostile to the next, fueling endless conflict and brutal wars.
- فَلَمَّا أَضَاءَ نُورُ الْإِسْلَامِ سَبِيلَ الرَّشَادِ، وَصَقَلَ نُفُوسَهُمْ، وَقَضَى عَلَى أَوْهَامِهِمْ، لَمْ يَلْبَثْ أَنْ كَشَفَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ الشَّعْبِ النَّبِيلِ أَشْرَفَ مَزَايَاهُ، وَأَكْرَمَ صِفَاتِهِ.
- When the light of Islam illuminated the path of guidance, refined their souls, and swept away their illusions, it soon revealed the noble character and finest virtues of those people.
- فَاتَّخَذَ مِنْ هُيَامِهِ بِالْحُرِّيَّةِ، وَتَقَشُّفِهِ فِي طَعَامِهِ، وَاحْتِمَالِهِ خُشُونَةَ الْعَيْشِ، وَصَبْرِهِ عَلَى الْمَصَائِبِ وَالْخُطُوبِ، أَدَاةً لِلتَّغَلُّبِ عَلَى أَعْدَاءِ الْعَرَبِ وَقَهْرِهِمْ عَلَى قِلَّةِ مَا يَمْلِكُ ذَلِكَ الشَّعْبُ الْكَرِيمُ مِنْ عَتَادٍ وَمَالٍ.
- Their passion for freedom, their simple diet, their endurance of hardship, and their patience through calamity became the tools with which they overcame their enemies, despite the scarcity of their wealth and equipment.
