وتبدل من الياء، كهذه في هذي؛ ومن الهمزة كهراق وأراق، وهنرت الثوب وأنرته، ومهيمن ومؤيمن؛ ومن الألف نحو أنه في أنا ولمه في لما وهنه في هنا
And it is substituted for 'ya', like 'hadhi' for 'hadhihi'; and for hamza, like 'araqa' and 'araqa', 'hanarta' and 'anarta' the garment, and 'muhaymin' and 'mu'aymin'; and for alif, like 'annahu' for 'annani', 'limma' for 'lamma', and 'wannahu' for 'hanah'
وتزاد في الأول نحو هذا وهذه، وفي الآخر مثل {هاء، الوقف للتنفس
And it is added at the beginning, like 'hadha' and 'hadhihi', and at the end, like 'ha' for pausing to breathe
والأحمق الأخرق الذاهب اللب، والجمع {الهواهي
And the foolish, the clumsy, the senseless one, and the plural is 'al-hawahi'
والبئر التي لا متعلق لها ولا موضع لرجل نازلها البعد جاليها
And the well that has no rope and no place for a man descending into it to stand, its drawers are far away
كالهوة والمهواة
Like 'al-huwwah' and 'al-mahwah'

وبه روي قول الشماخ: ولما رأيت الأمر عرش {هوية تسليت حاجات الفؤاد بشمرا
And with it is narrated the saying of Ash-Shammakh: And when I saw the matter as the throne of a deep pit, I amused the heart's desires with a swift camel
وسمع لأذنيه} هويا
And it is said: He heard for his ears 'huwwa'
أي (دويا) زنة ومعنى؛ (وقد {هوت أذنه) } تهوي
Meaning (a sound) in weight and meaning; (and his ear made a sound) it makes a sound
هيك) يا رجل، بكسر الياء المشددة، أي (أسرع فيما أنت فيه)
'Hayyik' O man, with a kasra on the emphasized ya, meaning (hurry up in what you are doing)
ما} هيانه) ، بالتشديد، أي (ما أمره)
'Ma hayyanuhu', with emphasis, meaning (what is his affair)
وهاواه) } مهاواة: (داراه، ويهمز)
'Hawāhu' 'muhawāh': (to deal with him, and it is hamzated)
والهواء واللواء، مكسورتين، أن تقبل بالشيء وتدبر، أي تلاينه مرة وتشاده أخرى
And 'al-hawā'' and 'al-liwā'', with kasras, is to approach something and withdraw from it, meaning to be lenient with it once and strict another time
أرسل إليه} بالهواء واللواء فلم يأته،! والهواء واللواء أن يقبل ويدبر، ومعناه في اللين والشدة يلاينه مرة ويشاده أخرى
He sent to him with 'al-hawā'' and 'al-liwā'' and he did not come to him! And 'al-hawā'' and 'al-liwā'' is to approach and withdraw, and its meaning in leniency and strictness is to be lenient with him once and strict another time

A pronoun for the singular feminine
وقد تحذف ياؤه) إذا كان قبلها ألف ساكنة (فيقال حتى ه) ؛ كذا في النسخ والصواب حتاه (فعلت ذلك)
And its 'ya' may be deleted if it is preceded by a silent alif (so it is said 'hatta ha'); this is in the manuscripts, and the correct reading is 'hatah' (you did that)

هي بن بي،! وهيان بن بيان: كناية عمن لا يعرف هو (ولا يعرف أبوه)
'Hi bin Bi', and 'Hayan bin Bayan': A reference to one whose identity (and father's identity) is unknown
لا أدري أي {هي بن بي هو؛ معناه أي الخلق هو
I don't know which 'Hi bin Bi' he is; meaning, what kind of creature he is
ويا} هي مالي: كلمة تعجب) ، معناه يا عجبا
And 'Ya hi mali': an expression of wonder, meaning O wonder!
يا هي مالي قلقت محاوري وصار أشباه الفغا ضرائري
O my goodness, my conversations are agitated, and the likenesses of the throat have become my excuses
هيا} هيا) : كلمة (زجر) للإبل
'Hayya hayya': a word (of driving) for camels
ليقربن قربا جلذياما دام فيهن فصيل حيا وقد دجا الليل {بهيا هيا
They will surely approach closely, as long as there is a young camel among them, alive, and the night has darkened with 'hayya hayya'
والنسبة} هايي {وهاوي وهوي؛ والفعل منه هييت} هاء حسنة، والجمع {أهياء} وأهواء {وهاءات، كأدواء وأحياء ودايات
And the attribution is 'hayyi', 'hawawi', and 'huwwi'; and the verb from it is 'hayyaitu' (a good 'ha'), and the plural is 'ahya'' and 'ahwaa'' and 'hawaa'aat', like 'adwaa'' and 'ahyaa'' and 'daayaat'
والهاء بياض في وجه الظبي، وأنشد الخليل: كأن خديها إذا لثمتها {هاء غزال يافع لطمته
And 'al-ha'' is a white patch on the face of a gazelle, and Al-Khalil narrated: As if her cheeks, when I kissed them, were a white patch on a young gazelle that was struck
وهيان بن بيان وبي بن بي، يقال ذلك للرجل إذا كان خسيسا
And 'Hayan bin Bayan' and 'Bi bin Bi', this is said of a man if he is base
فأقصعتهم وحطت بركها بهم وأعطت النهب} هيان بن بيان
So I made them flee and rested my camel among them and gave the spoils to 'Hayan bin Bayan'
ويا هي مالي معناه التأسف والتلهف، عن الكسائي
And 'Ya hi mali' means regret and longing, according to Al-Kisa'i
يا هي مالي من يعمر يفنه مر الزمان عليه والتقليب
O my goodness, whoever lives long, time wears him out and turns him over
ويقولون:} هيا هيا، أي أسرع إذا جدوا بالمطي ومنه قول الحريري: فقلنا للغلام هيا هيا وهات ما تهيا
And they say: 'Hayya hayya', meaning hurry, when they urge the mounts, and from it is the saying of Al-Hariri: So we said to the boy, 'Hayya hayya', and bring what is ready
ويقولون عند الإغراء بالشيء هي هي بكسر الهاء، وقد {هيهيت به أي أغريته
And they say when inciting to something 'hi hi' with a kasra on the ha, and 'hayhaytu bihi' means I incited him
وهيهيه، بالكسر والهاء للسكت: قرية بمصر في الشرقية
And 'hihih', with a kasra and a ha for pause: a village in Egypt in the Sharqia
وهيا، بالتخفيف: من حروف النداء هاؤه بدل من الهمزة وسيأتي
And 'hayya', with abbreviation: from the particles of calling, its ha is a substitute for hamza, and it will be discussed later
والعرب لا تقول هياك ضربت، ويقولون هياك وزيدا إذا نهوك
And the Arabs do not say 'hayyak darabt', and they say 'hayyak wa Zaydan' if they warn you
فقمت للطيف مرتاعا وأرقني فقلت أهي سرت أم عادني حلم؟
So I got up to the visitor, restless, and sleep eluded me, and I said, 'Did she come, or was it a dream that returned to me?'
