And al-qadhā: what a she-camel or sheep expels of fluid and blood, before and after giving birth.

وقيل: هو شيء يخرج من رحمها بعد الولادة، وقد قذت.

And it is said: it is something that comes out of her womb after childbirth, and she has expelled it.

أن الشاة تقذي عشرا بعد الولادة ثم تطهر

That the ewe expels (discharge) for ten days after birth, then becomes pure.

القذى: التراب المدقق

Al-qadhā: finely ground dust.

وهو الذي يقع في العين

And it is what falls into the eye.

مثل القذى يتبع القذيا

Like the foreign matter that follows the one with foreign matter in his eye.

وقذيت عينه، تقذى قذى وقذيانا وقذي

And his eye got something in it, it got something in it (various forms of the verb and noun).

أو صار فيها

And qadhāhā also means: he removed what was in it of debris or kohl; and it is the opposite.

وقذت قاذية من الناس، أي قدمت جماعة قليلة

And qadhāt (arrived) a qādhiyah of people, meaning a small group arrived.

قذت الشاة تقذي قذى: ألقت بياضا من رحمها حين تريد الفحل.

The sheep qadhāt (expelled) qadhā: it expelled white matter from its womb when it desired the male.

كل ذكر يمذي وكل أنثى تقذي، أي ترمي بياضها من شهوة الفحل، وهو مجاز.

Every male emits madiyy (semen), and every female taqdhī (emits white matter), meaning she expels her white matter out of desire for the male, and this is metaphorical.

قاذاه مقاذاة: جازاه

Qādhāhu muqādhāhah: he reciprocated him.

فسوف أقاذي القوم إن عشت سالما مقاذاة حر لا يقر على الذل

So I will compete with the people if I live safely, a competition of a free person who does not accept humiliation.

والاقتذاء: نظر الطير ثم إغماضه

And al-iqtidhā': the bird's looking and then closing its eyes.

خفى كاقتذاء الطير والليل واضع بأرواقه والصبح قد كاد يلمع

It flashed like the blinking of a bird's eyes, while the night was settling with its darkness, and the dawn was almost appearing.

يريد كما غمض الطائر عينه من قذاة وقعت فيها.

He means as the bird closed its eye because of a piece of foreign matter that fell into it.

وقيل: اقتذاء الطير فتحها عيونها وتغميضها كأنها تجلي بذلك قذاها ليكون أبصر لها.

And it is said: iqtidhā' al-tayr is the bird opening and closing its eyes, as if it were clearing its foreign matter to see better.

وهو يغضي على القذاء

And he endures (literally, closes his eyes upon) the oppression.

أي يسكت على الذل والضيم وفساد القلب

Meaning he remains silent in the face of humiliation, oppression, and corruption of the heart.

القذاة: كالقذى، أو الطائفة منه.

Al-qadhāh: like al-qadhā, or a portion of it.

ولا يصيبك مني ما يقذي عينك

And may nothing from me afflict your eye and cause it distress.

والأقذاء: السفلة من الناس.

And al-aqdhā': the base or lowly people.

And so-and-so has a qadhāh in his eye if something becomes burdensome to him.

ورجل قذي العين: إذا سقطت في عينه قذاة.

And a man with a qadhī eye: if a piece of foreign matter has fallen into his eye.

هدنة على دخن وجماعة على أقذاء

A truce based on hidden malice, and a gathering of people united by discord.

يريد اجتماعهم على فساد من القلوب؛ قاله أبو عبيد.

He means their gathering based on corruption of hearts; Abu Ubaid said this.
