Al-Akhfash said: He intended 'falaytanī' (would that I were combed) and deleted the last nun because this nun is a protection for the verb and not a noun, but the first nun cannot be dropped because it is the implied pronoun.
(و) من المجاز: فلى (الشعر) يفليه فليا: إذا (تدبره واستخرج معانيه) وغريبه؛ عن ابن السكيت؛ كذا في الصحاح.
And metaphorically: he examined (poetry), examining it, if he delved into its meanings and obscure parts; from Ibn al-Sikkit; this is as in Sahah.

Ibn al-A'rabi said: They say: 'Faliyat al-afai has come to you'; it is a proverb for the beginning of awaited evil, and the plural is al-fawali.
(وأيضا: (خنفساء رقطاء تألف العقارب والحيات فإذا خرجت من جحرها آذنت بها).
And also: a spotted beetle that frequents the holes of scorpions and snakes, and when it emerges from its hole, it signals their presence.
وفي المحكم: هي سيدة الخنافس. وقيل: فالية الأفاعي دواب تكون عند جحرة الضباب، فإذا خرجت علم أن الضب خارج لا محالة، فيقال: أتتكم فالية الأفاعي، فدل هذا على أنها جمع، على أنه قد يخبر في مثل هذا بالجمع عن الواحد.
And in Al-Muhkam: it is the mistress of beetles. It was said: Faliyat al-afai are creatures found near the holes of monitor lizards, and when it emerges, it is known that the lizard is definitely coming out, so it is said: 'Faliyat al-afai has come to you', indicating that it is a plural, although in such cases the plural can be used for the singular.

Do you not see me steadfast, striking him with the sword if he provokes me
والتفلي: التكلف للفلاية؛
And al-tafliyah: making an effort for the falayah (lice comb);
إذا أتت جاراتها {تفلى تريك أشغى قلحا أفلا
When she comes to her neighbors, she combs, showing you a gap-toothed mouth.
وتفالت الحمر: احتكت كأن بعضها {يفلى بعضا؛ قال ذو الرمة:
And the donkeys rubbed against each other as if some were combing others; Dhu al-Rummah said:
ظلت} تفالى وظل الجون مصطخما كأنه عن تناهي الروض محجوم
She kept rubbing, and the dark one remained still, as if restrained from reaching the end of the meadow.
وفلى الأمر: تأمل وجوهه ونظر إلى عاقبته.
And he considered the matter: he contemplated its aspects and looked at its outcome.
وفليت القوم بعيني
And I observed the people closely
