What is 'al-sulwan'? He replied: It is said to be a bead that is crushed and its water is drunk, which bestows solace upon the drinker.
إنما هو مصدر سلوت، أي لو أشرب السلو شربا ما سلوت.
It is merely the مصدر (verbal noun) of 'salawtu', meaning: even if I were to drink 'al-sulw' (consolation) repeatedly, I would not be consoled.
وأسلاه عنه فتسلى؛ والاسم السلوة
And He consoled him from it, so he was consoled; and the noun is 'al-sulwah'.
والسلوانة، بالضم: العسل، كالسلوى
And 'al-sulwanah', with dammah, means honey, like 'al-sulwa'.
إنما سمي العسل سلوى لأنه يسليك بحلاوته
Honey is only named 'sulwa' because its sweetness consoles you.

'Al-sulwan': that which is drunk and provides solace.
أو هو أن يؤخذ تراب قبر ميت فيجعل في ماء فيسقى العاشق، فيموت حبه
Or it is to take the soil of a dead person's grave, put it in water, and give it to the lover to drink, so his love dies.
يا ليت أن لقلبي من يعلله أو ساقيا فسقاني عنك سلوانا
Oh, I wish my heart had someone to comfort it, or a cupbearer to give me 'sulwana' (a comforting drink) instead of you.
أو هو دواء يسقاه الحزين فيفرحه
Or it is a medicine given to the sad person to make them happy.
فيسلو، والأطباء يسمونه المفرح
So he is consoled, and the physicians call it 'al-mufarrih' (the joy-bringer).

عين بالقدس عجيبة لها جرية أو جريتان في اليوم فقط يتبرك بها
A wondrous spring in Al-Quds with only one or two flows per day, from which blessings are sought.
