And al-idda'ā': wishing; and by this is interpreted His saying, the Almighty: {And they shall have therein whatever they wish}, meaning whatever they wish for, and it refers to the meaning of calling, i.e., what the people of Paradise claim.

وقوله: تدعو من أدبر وتولى، أي تفعل بهم الأفاعيل المنكرة والمكروهة.

And His saying: you bring upon those who turn away and show aversion, meaning you do to them abominable and hateful deeds.

والدعاء: العبادة والاستغاثة، ومن الثاني: {وادعوا شهداءكم} ، أي استغيثوا بهم.

And al-du'ā': worship and seeking help, and from the latter: {And call your witnesses}, meaning seek their help.

ويقولون: دعانا غيث وقع ببلد قد أمرع، أي كان سببا لانتجاعنا إياه.

And they say: rain called us to a land that has become fertile, meaning it was a reason for us to seek pasture there.

والدعاة: قوم يدعون إلى بيعة هدى أو ضلالة، واحدهم داع.

And the du'āh: people who call to a covenant of guidance or misguidance, their singular is dā'i.

ويدعي بكرم فعالة، أي يخبر بذلك عن نفسه.

And he claims generosity of deeds, meaning he informs about himself of that.

وله مساع ومداع، أي مناقب في الحرب خاصة، وهو مجاز.

كل شيء في الأرض إذا احتاج إلى شيء فقد دعا به؛ لمن أخلقت ثيابه: قد دعت ثيابك، أي احتجت إلى أن تلبس غيرها.

Everything on earth, if it needs something, it has called for it; for one whose clothes are worn out: your clothes have called, meaning you need to wear others.
