نَجَهَهُ (كَمَنَعَهُ) نَجْهًا: رَدَّهُ وَانْتَهَرَهُ

He rejected him (like he prevented him) with rejection: he repelled him and rebuked him.

نَجَهْتُ الرَّجُلَ نَجْهًا إِذَا اسْتَقْبَلْتَهُ بِمَا تَنْهَنْهُهُ وَتَكُفُّهُ عَنْكَ فَيَنْقَدِعُ عَنْكَ

I rejected a man with rejection if you meet him with what deters him and stops him from you, so he turns away from you.

النَّجْهُ الزَّجْرُ وَالرَّدْعُ؛ وَنَجَّهَهُ (كَتَنَجَّهَهُ)

The najh is the scolding and deterring; and he deterred him (like he deterred him).

كَعْكَعتُهُ بِالرَّجْمِ وَالتَّنَجُّهِ

I stopped him with stoning and deterring.

وَنَجَهَ عَلَى القَوْمِ: طَلَعَ

And he appeared upon the people: he emerged.

وَنَجَهَ بَلَدَ كَذَا إِذَا دَخَلَهُ فَكَرِهَهُ، فَهُوَ نَاجِهٌ

And he entered such-and-such a country and disliked it, so he is a najih (one who dislikes).

وَانْتَهَجَهُ الرَّجُلُ: رَدَعَهُ وَزَجَرَهُ

And the man deterred him: he restrained him and scolded him.

فُلانٌ لا يَنْجَعُهُ وَلا يَهْجَؤُهُ وَلا يَهْجَأُ فِيهِ شَيْءٌ وَلا يُنْجِهَهُ شَيْءٌ وَلا يَنْجَهُ فِيهِ شَيْءٌ

So-and-so, nothing benefits him, nor scolds him, nor does anything affect him, nor does anything deter him, nor does anything repel him.

وَرَجُلٌ مِنْجُوهٌ: مُخَيَّبٌ

And a man munjuwah: disappointed.
