He was named this because when his people suffered drought, he would sustain them until prosperity came to them, so they said: He is the water of the sky because prosperity came from him.
وقيل لولده: بنو ماء السماء، وهم ملوك الشأم؛ قال بعض الأنصار: أنا ابن مزيقيا عمر ووجديأبوه عامر ماء السماء
And his offspring were called: Banu Ma' al-Sama', and they are the kings of Sham; some of the Ansar said: I am the son of Muzayqiya 'Amr, and my ancestor is Abuhi 'Amir Ma' al-Sama'.
