It is a town in Egypt, from the districts of Sharqia.
It is six leagues from Fustat, the capital of Egypt.
And people today pronounce the 'b' with a fatha (open vowel).
And this is what is famous on their tongues, and they do not know the kasra (short vowel).
The apparent meaning is 'its honey' because the pronoun refers to the town, as if he thought it was a country.
And it has been mentioned in the hadith: 'And the Prophet, peace be upon him, blessed its honey, saying: (May Allah bless Banha and its honey),'
So the supplication from him, peace be upon him, was for its people and its honey.
And for a long time, honey has not been produced there, and they do not keep bees except those brought from its surroundings.
And they are the best of people in character and the most gentle in disposition, and righteousness and adherence to the Sunnah prevail among them;
I visited them multiple times when going to Damietta and returning to them,
And I found them to be people of piety, love, and kindness,
And great scholars and hadith narrators emerged from it,
Among its later scholars is Shams al-Din Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn Ismail al-Banawi al-Shafi'i, who narrated from Ibn al-Shihna, and from him narrated Al-Hafiz al-Sakhawi and Al-Burhan al-Biqa'i.
