القفينة والنون زائدة

النون في القفينة لام الكلمة
The 'nun' in al-qufaynah is the root letter.
قفن الشاة قفنا، وهي قفين، والشاة قفينة مثل ذبيحة
He slaughtered the sheep from its nape, and it is qufayyin, and the sheep is qufīnah like dhabīḥah.
ولو كانت النون زائدة لبقيت الكلمة بغير لام
And if the 'nun' were extra, the word would remain without a 'lam'.
وأما أبو زيد فلم يعرف فيها إلا القفية بالياء
As for Abu Zayd, he only knew of it as al-qufiyyah with a 'ya'.
كان بعض الناس يرى أن القفينة التي تذبح من القفا، وليست بتلك، ولكنها التي يبان رأسها بالذبح، وإن كان من الحلق
Some people used to think that al-qufaynah is that which is slaughtered from the nape, but it is not that; rather, it is that whose head is severed by slaughter, even if from the throat.
ولعل المعنى يرجع إلى القفا لأنه إذا بان لم يكن له بد من قطع القفا
And perhaps the meaning refers back to the nape because if it is severed, there is no avoiding cutting the nape.
وقفن الكلب: ولغ
And qafana the dog: it lapped.
واقتفن الشاة: ذبحها من قبل وجهها فأبان الرأس
And iqtafana the sheep: he slaughtered it from its face and severed the head.
وكذلك البعير والطائر
