And it is (D in the Maghreb, thus in the manuscripts, and it is a mistake, as if it was confused with Baghanah which was previously mentioned, even though Farghana was mentioned there incidentally and it is from the lands of the Persians, not the Maghreb.
قال ابن خرداذيه: بين فرغانة وسمرقند ثلاثة وخمسون فرسخا، بناها أنو شروان الملك ونقل إليها من كل بيت قوما وسماها أزهر خانة، أي من كل بيت ثم عربت.
Ibn Khurdadhbih said: Between Farghana and Samarkand are fifty-three parasangs. The king Anushirvan built it and moved people from every household to it and named it 'Azhar Khānah', meaning 'from every household', then it was Arabized.
وقال اليعقوبي: فرغانة التي ينزلها الملك يقال لها كاسان.
Al-Ya'qubi said: The Farghana where the king resides is called Kashan.
وقال ابن الأثير: فرغانة ولاية وراء جيحون وسيحون، وقد نسب إليها جماعة من المحدثين.
Ibn al-Athir said: Farghana is a province beyond the Jihun and Sayhun, and a group of hadith scholars are attributed to it.
