And Saghanian: a great district beyond the Oxus River, and the Imam, the Hafiz, the scholar of language, the jurist, the traditionist, the traveler Abu al-Fada'il Radi al-Din al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn al-Hasan ibn Haydar ibn Ali al-Qurashi al-Adawi al-Umari al-Hanafi, the author of many works, is attributed to it.

وقد ظفرت بحمد الله تعالى من تآليفه على العباب والتكملة ومجمع البحرين الحديثي وكتاب أسماء الأسد.

And I have, by the grace of God Almighty, obtained from his works Al-Abab, Al-Takmila, Majma' al-Bahrain (in Hadith), and Kitab Asma' al-Asad.

ولد بمدينة لاهور سنة 555، ونشأ بغزنة، ودخل بغداد سنة 595، وذهب منها بالرسالة الشريفة إلى ملك الهند سنة 617، وقدم سنة 624، ثم أعيد رسولا فلم يرجع إلى سنة 637

He was born in the city of Lahore in the year 555, grew up in Ghazna, entered Baghdad in the year 595, and went from there with a noble message to the King of India in the year 617, and arrived in the year 624, then was sent again as an envoy and did not return until the year 637.

وكان معاصرا له، قدم العراق وحج ونفق سوقه باليمن، وصنف كتابا في التصريف، وكمل العزيزي ومناسك الحج وختمه بقوله: شوقي إلى الكعبة الغراء قد نادى فاستحمل القلص الوخادة الزادافي أبيات.

And he was his contemporary, he came to Iraq, performed Hajj, and his reputation flourished in Yemen. He authored a book on morphology, completed Al-Azizi and Manasik al-Hajj, and concluded it with his saying: 'My longing for the radiant Kaaba has called, so I have loaded the swift camels with provisions,' in verses.

وفي سنة 613 كان بمكة وقد رجع من اليمن، وهو آخر العهد به.

And in the year 613 he was in Mecca, having returned from Yemen, and that was the last time I saw him.

هو شيخ صالح صدوق صموت عن فضل الكلام، إمام في اللغة والفقه والحديث، قرأت عليه وحضرت دفنه بداره بالحريم الظاهري سنة 650

He is a righteous, truthful shaykh, silent from superfluous speech, an imam in language, jurisprudence, and hadith. I read under him and attended his burial in his house in Al-Harim Al-Zahiri in the year 650.

وكان معه مولد محكوم فيه بموته بوقت، وكان يترقبه فحضر ذلك اليوم وهو معافى قائم ليس به قلبه فعمل سكرانا لذلك ثم مات ذلك اليوم فجأة، رحمه الله تعالى.

And he had with him a birth chart in which his death was decreed for a specific time, and he was awaiting it. That day arrived, and he was healthy and standing, not feeling ill. He became ecstatic for that reason, then died suddenly on that day, may God have mercy on him.

والنسبة صغاني وصاغاني، والذي رأيته في العباب والتكملة يكتب بنفسه لنفسه يقول محمد بن الحسن الصغاني، من غير ألف، ويفهم من عبارة المصنف أن كلاهما جائزان في النسبة والمنسوب إليه محل واحد، وهكذا ذهبت فأقول تارة قال الصغاني، وتارة قال الصاغاني، غير أني رأيت في بعض كتب الأنساب فرقا بينهما.

And the nisba is Sagani and Sagani (with alif). And what I saw in Al-Abab and Al-Takmila, he himself wrote for himself saying Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Sagani, without an alif. And it is understood from the author's statement that both are permissible for the nisba, and the attributed place is one. And thus I proceeded, saying sometimes 'Al-Sagani said,' and sometimes 'Al-Sagani said,' however, I saw in some books of genealogy a distinction between them.

فأما صغانيان فهذا الذي ذكره المصنف، رحمه الله تعالى.

وأما صاغان معرب جاغان فقرية بمرو، أو سكة بها، منها: أبو العباس أحمد بن عمران الصاغاني المقرىء عن أبي بكر الطرسوسي؛ وأبو بكر محمد بن إسحق الصاغاني، ويقال فيه الصغاني أيضا.

As for Saghan, which is a Persianized form of Jaghan, it is a village in Merv, or a street therein. From it are: Abu al-Abbas Ahmad ibn Imran al-Sagani the reciter, from Abu Bakr al-Tarsusi; and Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Ishaq al-Sagani, and he is also called al-Sagani.

ومن صغانيان أبو العباس بن يحيى بن الحسين الحنفي سمع السيد أبا الحسن العلوي، وعنه أبو بكر الخطيب البغدادي.

And from Saghanian is Abu al-Abbas ibn Yahya ibn al-Husayn al-Hanafi, who heard from Sayyid Abu al-Hasan al-Alawi, and from him Abu Bakr al-Khatib al-Baghdadi.

وأبو يعقوب إسحق بن إبراهيم بن صيغون الصيغوني صوفي زاهد صالح محدث مصري ذكره ابن يونس في التاريخ وقال: مات سنة 302.

And Abu Ya'qub Ishaq ibn Ibrahim ibn Sayghun al-Sayghuni, a Sufi, ascetic, righteous traditionist from Egypt. Ibn Yunus mentioned him in the History and said: He died in the year 302.
