And Shukkan, like 'kitab': a village in Bukhara, in Al-Sam'ani's opinion, and from it was Abu Ishaq Ibrahim bin Salem bin Muhammad bin Ahmad, who studied jurisprudence under Abu Bakr Muhammad bin Al-Fadl Al-Imam, and narrated from Abu Abdullah Al-Razi, and from him narrated Al-Sayyid Abu Bakr Muhammad bin Ali Al-Ja'fari, who died in the year 333.
وإشكونية، بالكسر وضم الكاف وكسر النون والياء مفتوحة: بلد من نواحي الروم بالثغر غزاه سيف الدولة بن حمدان، عن ياقوت، رحمه الله تعالى.
And Ishkuniyah, with a kasrah on the hamzah, a dammah on the kaf, a kasrah on the nun, and the yaa is open: a country in the regions of Rome in the frontier, which Sayf al-Dawlah bin Hamdan invaded, according to Yaqut, may God have mercy on him.
