And al-shazan: the side and the direction, like al-shuzun bi-ḍammatayn. And in this way was narrated the hadith of Luqman of 'Ad: (And He appointed them to his shaznah), meaning his side, or His severity and might, meaning: if an affair befell them, He appointed His side to them and protected them with Himself.
فقال: (حتى أتشزن) أي أستعد للجواب وأتحسن له.
So he said: (Until I prepare myself), meaning I get ready for the answer and brace myself for it.
تشزن الرجل صاحبه تشزنا، على القياس، وتشزينا، على غير قياس، ونظيره: وتبتل إليه تبتيلا، (صرعه).
A man throws down his companion, tashazzunan, according to analogy, and tashzeenan, not according to analogy, and its parallel is: and he submitted to Him, tabteelan, (he threw him down).
وقيل: التشزن في الصراع: أن يضعه على وركه فيصرعه، وهو التورك.
And it was said: Al-tashazzun in wrestling is to place him on his hip and throw him down, and this is Al-tawarrruk.
وتشزن الشاة: أضجعها ليذبحها.
And to lay the sheep down: to lay it down for slaughter.
وشزن، كفرح، شزنا: نشط.
And shazana, like faraha, shazanan: to be nimble.
والشزنة، بالفتح: البخيلة المتعسرة الخلق.
And al-shaznah, with fatha: the stingy, difficult-tempered one.
والشزن، بالتحريك: الغلظ من الأرض، والجمع شزن وشزون؛ وقد شزنت، ككرم، شزونة.
And al-shazan, with harakah: the roughness of the land, and the plural is shazan and shuzun; and it became rough, like karuma, shuzunatan.
والشزن، بالضم: الجانب. يقال: ما أبالي على أي قطريه وعلى أي شزينه وقع، بمعنى واحد، وبه روي أيضا حديث لقمان بن عاد.
And al-shazan, with damma: the side. It is said: I do not care on which of its two sides or on which of its shazinah it falls, meaning the same thing, and by this was also narrated the hadith of Luqman of 'Ad.
وتشزن له: توسع. وقيل: تحرف.
And tashazzana for him: to make way. And it was said: to deviate.
وشزن الرجل للرمي إذا تحرف.
And a man shazana for throwing when he deviates.
والشزن، محركة: الناقة تمشي من نشاطها على جانب واحد، وبه فسر حديث سطيح. تجوب بي الأرض علنداة شزن.
And al-shazan, with harakah: the she-camel that walks on one side out of its liveliness, and by this was explained the hadith of Satih. It traverses the land with me, a lively, sideways-walking she-camel.
