والمشتبك بعضها ببعض كما تشتبك الشجرة؛ ومنه حديث سطيح الكاهن: تجوب بي الأرض علنداة شجن أي ناقة متداخلة الخلق كأنها شجرة متشجنة، أي متصلة الأغصان بعضها ببعض، ويروى: شزن، وسيأتي في موضعه إن شاء الله تعالى.

And intertwined with each other like a tree is intertwined; and from it is the Hadith of Satih the Soothsayer: 'The land traverses me, a shajan camel, meaning a camel with intertwined creation as if it were an intertwined tree, meaning connected branches to each other, and it is narrated as shazan, and it will come in its place, God willing.'

الشجن: الحاجة حيث كانت.

He who hopes for everlasting survival, let not the vanities of this world be a shajan for him.

The matter saddened him, shajan: it grieved him, shajan (with fath), and shujunan (with damma), like ashjanahu. So he became shajan, like faraha and karuma, shajan (with haraka), and shujunan (with damma), so he is shajin.

الشجنة: شعبة من عنقود تدرك كلها.

The shajna: a branch of a cluster that ripens all at once.

وقد أشجن الكرم: صار ذا شجنة.

The man tasajjana: he remembered; from Al-Layth, and he recited: 'It stirred up shajan for whoever tasajjana.'

تشجن الشجر: التف واشتبكت أغصانه.

The trees tasajjana: they intertwined and their branches became entangled.

الحديث ذو شجون: أي فنون وأغراض؛ وقيل: أي يدخل بعضه في بعض، أي ذو شعب وامتساك بعضه ببعض.

The hadith is dhu shujun: meaning various kinds and purposes; and it was said: meaning some of it enters into others, meaning it has branches and holds onto each other.

يراد أن الحديث يتفرق بالإنسان شعبه ووجهه، يضرب مثلا للحديث يستذكر به غيره.

It is meant that the discourse scatters from a person in its branches and aspects, used as an example for a discourse by which one recalls others.

فقال ضبة: الحديث ذو شجون، ثم ضرب به الحارث فقتله.

So Dabba said: 'The hadith is dhu shujun,' then he struck Al-Harith with it and killed him.

فلا تأمنن الحرب إن استعارهاكضبة إذ قال الحديث شجون

So do not feel safe from war if Dabba ignites it, when he said 'The hadith is shujun.'

الشجن، بالفتح: الطريق في الوادي؛ كما في الصحاح؛ أو في أعلاه، كذا في النسخ، والصواب: أو أعلاه؛ ج شجون، كالشاجنة، وهي أعلى الوادي، ج شواجن.

Al-Shajan, with fath: the path in the valley; as in Sahah; or at its upper part, as in the manuscripts, and the correct reading is: or its upper part; plural shujun, like al-shajina, which is the upper part of the valley, plural shawajin.

السواجن والشجون أعلى الوادي، واحدها شجن.

Al-Sawajin and al-Shujun are the upper parts of the valley, the singular of which is shajan.

كظهر اللأى لو تبتغى رية بهنهارا لعيت في بطون الشواجنوكذلك روى الأزهري عن أبي عمر و: الشواجن أعالي الوادي، واحدتها شاجنة.

Like the back of a barren land, if you sought moisture from it during the day, you would be exhausted in the depths of the shawajin. And similarly, Al-Azhari narrated from Abu Amr: Al-Shawajin are the upper parts of the valley, the singular of which is shajina.

والشواجن: أودية كثيرة الشجر؛ قال مالك بن خالد الخناعي: لما رأيت عدي القوم يسلبهمطلح الشواجن والطرفاء والسلمأي لما هربوا تعلقت ثيابهم بالطلح فتركوها.

And Al-Shawajin: valleys with abundant trees; Malik bin Khalid Al-Khuna'i said: 'When I saw the people's pursuit stripping them of the talh of the shawajin, and the tamarisk, and the lote tree.' Meaning, when they fled, their clothes got caught on the talh trees, and they left them.

It is a large valley in the lands of Dabba, with many twists and turns within it, including Lasaaf, Al-Lahaba, and Thabra, its waters are sweet.

And they say: 'Shajantani shujun,' like they say 'Abalatni 'ubul.'

وبيني وبينه شجنة رحم، بالكسر والضم، أي قرابة مشتبكة.

And between me and him is a shajat of kinship, with kasr and damma, meaning intertwined kinship.
