And it was said: A person's rukn is his strength and might; likewise is the rukn of a mountain and a palace, which is its side.
وركن الرجل: قومه وعدده ومادته؛ وبه فسرت الآية
And a man's rukn is his kin, his numbers, and his resources; and with this the verse is interpreted.
والركن، بالفتح: الجرذ والفار كالركين، كزبير

And it was said: It is the basin in which clothes and the like are washed; and from this is the hadith of Hamnah: that she used to sit in a markan for her sister Zaynab while she was menstruating

And Abu Al-Haytham said: Al-Rukn is the tribe

And he is a rukn from the rukns of his people: an honorable man among their nobles
وأركان الإنسان: جوارحه
And the arkan of a human: his limbs
وأركان كل شيء جوانبه التي يستند إليها ويقوم بها
And the arkan of everything are its sides upon which it leans and stands
والمركن من الضروع، كمعظم: العظيم كأنه ذو الأركان
And Al-Markan from udders, like mu'dham: the large one, as if it has pillars
وضرع مركن: انتفخ في موضعه حتى يملأالأرفاغ، وليس بحد طويل، قال طرفة: وضرتها مركنة درور
