وقال ابنُ شُمَيْلٍ: رَجَنَ فلانٌ راحِلَتَهُ رَجْناً شديداً في الدارِ: وهو أن يَحْبِسَها مُناخَةً لا يَعْلُفُها؛

And Ibn Shumayl said: So-and-so restrained his riding camel severely in the house: which is to confine it, tethered, and not feed it.

أو رَجَنَها: حَبَسَها في المنزلِ على العَلَفِ.

Or he confined it: he confined it in the dwelling place with fodder.

ونقل الجوهري عن الفراء: إذا جَسَّها عن المرعى على غير علف، فإن أمسكها على علف قيل: رَجَنَها تَرْجيناً (فرجَنَتْ هي رُجُوناً)، من حد نصر يتعدى ولا يتعدى كما في الصحاح.

And Al-Jawhari narrated from Al-Farra': If he withheld it from pasture without fodder, then if he kept it with fodder, it is said: he confined it with fodder (and it was confined with fodder), from the pattern of nasara, it is transitive and intransitive as in Al-Sihah.

ورَجَنَ فُلاناً: استحيا منه، وهذا من نوادر أبي زيد.

And he felt shy of someone: he felt shy of him, and this is from the rare sayings of Abu Zayd.

وارْتَجَنَ على القومِ أمرُهم: اختَلَطَ، كما في الصحاح

And their affair became confused among the people: it became mixed up, as in Al-Sihah.

وهو من ارْتِجانِ الزُّبْدِ إذا طُبِخَ فلم يَصْفُ وفسَدَ وارتَكَمَ وأقامَ؛ أو تفرَّقَ في المَمْخَضِ؛

And it is from the churning of butter when it is cooked and does not clarify, and spoils, and accumulates, and settles; or disperses in the churning process.

وهو من ارْتِجانِ الإذوابةِ، وهي الزُّبْدَةُ تخرجُ من السقاءِ مختلطةً بالرائبِ الخاثرِ فتوضعُ على النارِ فإذا غلا ظهرَ الرائبُ مختلطاً بالسمنِ فذلك الارتِجانُ.

And it is from the churning of ghee, which is butter that comes out of the waterskin mixed with thick yogurt, and is placed on the fire. When it boils, the yogurt appears mixed with the ghee, and that is the churning.

والرَّجِينُ: السَّمُّ القاتِلُ.

And the deadly poison: the lethal poison.

والرَّجِينَةُ، (بهاء): الجماعةُ.

And the group, (with ta'): the company.

والمَرْجونَةُ: القُفَّةُ.

And the hamper: the basket.

ورَجَّانُ، كَشَدَّادٍ: وادٍ بنَجْدٍ؛

ومنه أحمدُ بنُ الحُسَيْنِ... وأحمدُ بنُ أيُّوبَ... وعبدُ اللهِ بنُ محمدِ بنِ شعيبٍ وأخوهُ أحمدُ، الرَّجَانِيُّونَ المُحَدِّثونَ.

And from them are Ahmad bin Al-Husayn... and Ahmad bin Ayyub... and Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Shu'ayb and his brother Ahmad, the Rajaniyyun hadith scholars.

And Al-Lihyani said: He consumed the food and ate it: if he did not leave anything of it, and likewise the camel consumed the fodder.

وهم في مَرْجونَةٍ: أي في اختِلاطٍ لا يَدْرونَ أيُقيمونَ أم يَظْعَنونَ.

And they are in a state of confusion: meaning in a mix-up, not knowing whether they will stay or travel.

وأَرْجونَةُ، بالفتحِ وضمِّ الجيمِ: بلدةٌ بالأندلسِ، منها: أبو محمدٍ شعيبُ بنُ سهلِ بنِ شعيبٍ الأَرْجُوانيُّ المحدِّثُ، لهُ رحلةٌ بالمشرقِ.

وأَرْجِيانُ: اسمُ حَوارِيِّ عيسى، عليهِ السلامُ، دُفِنَ بأَرْجانَ.

And Arjiyan: the name of a disciple of Jesus, peace be upon him, buried in Arjan.

And Rajiyan: the grandfather of Abu Muhammad Abdullah bin Muhammad, the Baghdadi hadith scholar from Abu Al-Qasim bin Shakharf, and from him Ibn Battah Al-Bakri. And Al-Rawajin is a branch, among them is Abu Sa'id 'Abbad bin Ya'qub Al-Rawajini, from whom Al-Bukhari the hadith master narrated.
