هو (العربون)، وكرهها بعضهم.
It is the 'arbun, and some disliked it.
وأربنته: أعطيته ربونا
And I gave him a deposit: I gave him a rabūn.
وهو دخيل.
And it is foreign.
والمرتبن: المرتفع فوق مكان
And al-murtatib: the elevated above a place.
عن أبي عمر و، والمرتبيء مثله
From Abu Amr, and al-murtabi' is similar.
و (ربان، كرمان: ركن من) أركان (أجأ)، أحد جبلي طيء.
And (Rabbān, like Rammān: a peak of) the peaks of (Ajā'), one of the two mountains of Tayy.
والصحيح أنه ريان، بالتحتية، كشداد، وهو من أطول جبال أجأ، وهو عظيم أسود، يوقدون فيه النار فترى من مسيرة ثلاث، قاله نصر.
And the correct reading is Rayyān, with a ya', like Shaddād, and it is one of the tallest mountains of Ajā', and it is a great black mountain, where they light a fire that is seen from a distance of three days, according to Nasr.
والربان: (من يجري السفينة)، والجمع ربابين.
And al-rubbān: (one who steers the ship), and the plural is rabābīn.
قال الأزهري: وأظنه دخيلا.
Al-Azhari said: And I think it is foreign.
وقد صرح بعض أنه الربابي منسوب إلى الرب، متعلق علمه بما في باطن البحر من شعوب وغيرها، ثم عند الاستعمال حذفت الياء وظنت الباء كأنها أصلية، وعلى هذا محل ذكره في الموحدة.
And some have explicitly stated that it is al-Rabbābī, attributed to al-Rabb, whose knowledge is related to the creatures and other things within the sea, then in usage the 'ya' was dropped and the 'ba' was considered original, and on this basis its mention belongs in the letter 'Ba'.
وقد تصرف فيه فقالوا: (تربن): إذا صار ربانا.
And they have derived from it, saying: (tarabbana): if he became a captain.
والربانية: ماء لبني كلب بن يربوع؛ ومر له في حرف الباء الربابية: ماء باليمامة؛ وقيده الصاغاني هنا بالضم، فما هنا تصحيف ظاهر فتأمل.
And al-Rabbāniyyah: a water source of Banu Kilb bin Yarbu'; and it was mentioned earlier under the letter 'Ba' as al-Rabbābiyyah: a water source in Yamamah; Al-Saghani recorded it here with damma, so what is here is clearly a misspelling, so ponder.
وربان، (ككتاب: اسم لشخص من جرم وليس في العرب ربان بالراء غيره ومن سواه بالزاي).
And Rabbān, (like Kittāb: the name of a person from Jurm, and there is no one among the Arabs named Rabbān with a 'ra' except him, and others are with a 'zayn').
قلت: الذي صرح به أئمة النسب أنه ربان، كشداد، وهو ابن حلوان، وهو والد جرم، من قضاعة ينسب إليه جماعة من الصحابة وغيرهم، وهكذا ضبطه الحافظ الذهبي وابن حجر وابن الجواني النسابة.
I say: What the genealogists have explicitly stated is that he is Rabbān, like Shaddād, and he is the son of Hulwān, and he is the father of Jurm, from Quḍā'ah, to whom a group of Companions and others are attributed, and thus Al-Hafiz Al-Dhahabi, Ibn Hajar, and Ibn Al-Juwayni the genealogist have recorded it.
وعلي بن ربن الطبري، محركا، مؤلف كتاب الأمثال وغيره.
And Ali bin Rabn Al-Tabari, with harakat, author of the Book of Proverbs and others.
قال الحافظ بن حجر: هو من مشهوري الأطباء تتلمذ له محمد بن زكريا وأبوه رين الطبري، ذكر أنه كان يهوديا متميزا في الطب.
Al-Hafiz Ibn Hajar said: He is among the famous physicians, Muhammad bin Zakariya studied under him, and his father Rayn Al-Tabari, who mentioned that he was a distinguished Jew in medicine.
قال: والربن: المتقدم في شريعة اليهود.
He said: And al-Rabban: the foremost in Jewish law.
فعلى هذا هو بتشديد الموحدة.
Therefore, according to this, it is with a shadda on the 'ba'.
وأربونة، بالضم: د بالمغرب؛ وضبطه ياقوت بالضم والفتح معا؛ وقال: هو بلد في طرف المغرب من أرض الأندلس، وهي الآن بيد الإفرنج لعنهم الله تعالى، بينها وبين قرطبة، على ما ذكره ابن النبيه، ألف ميل.
And Arbūnah, with damma: a place in the Maghreb; and Yaqut recorded it with both damma and fatha; and he said: It is a city on the edge of the Maghreb in the land of Andalusia, and it is now in the hands of the Europeans, may God curse them, and it is a thousand miles between it and Cordoba, as mentioned by Ibn Al-Nabih.
وموضع الرابن منك: هو موضع الران؛ عن ابن دريد وسيأتي الران في موضعه.
And the place of the rābin from you: it is the place of the rān; from Ibn Duraid, and the rān will be mentioned in its place.
ربان كل شيء معظمه وجماعته.
The rabān of everything is its greatest part and its group.
وأخذته بربانه، بالضم والكسر، ومر بن ومروبن، كمعظم ومجوهر، فارسي معرب.
And I took it by its rabānah, with damma and kasra, and marbān and marūbin, like mu'aẓẓam and mujawhar, are Persian loanwords.
قال ابن دريد: وأحسبه الذي يسمى الران، وبهما روي قول رؤبة: مسرول في آله مربن ومروبن.
Ibn Duraid said: And I think it is what is called the rān, and with both of them the saying of Ru'bah is narrated: Wearing trousers among his gods, murbin and marūbin.
ومحمد بن ربن الصوفي بالفتح.
And Muhammad bin Rabn Al-Sufi, with fatha.
قال الحافظ: قرأته بخط مغلطاي، وقال: حدثنا عنه شيخنا أبو محمد البصري.
Al-Hafiz said: I read it in the handwriting of Mughaltay, and he said: Our shaykh Abu Muhammad Al-Basri narrated to us from him.
