Water is 'mutadammim' if the droppings of camels and sheep fall into it.
الدمنة، بهاء: آثار الدار والناس.
Ad-damnah (with ha'): are the traces of the dwelling and the people.
الدمنة: ما سودوا وأثروا فيه بالدمن
Ad-damnah: is what they blackened and marked with dung.
منزل دمنه آباؤنا المورثون المجد في أولى الليالي
A dwelling whose traces were left by our ancestors who inherited glory in the first nights.
وقعوا على دمنة الدار: وهي البقعة التي سودها أهلها وبالت فيه وبعرت ماشيتهم.
They came upon the 'damnat al-dar': which is the spot that its people blackened, and their livestock urinated and defecated in it.
الدمنة: الحقد القديم الثابت المدمن للصدر.
Ad-damnah: is the old, fixed grudge that lingers in the chest.
وقد دمن عليه، كفرح؛ ودمنت قلوبهم: أي ضغنت.
And he harbored resentment towards him, like 'faraha'; and their hearts harbored resentment: meaning they were angry.
الدمنة: الموضع القريب من الدار جمع الكل دمن على بابه، ودمن بالكسر الأخيرة كسدرة وسدر.
Ad-damnah: is the place near the house; the plural of all of them is 'damn' in its usual form, and 'dimn' (with kasra on the last letter) like 'sidrah' and 'sidr'.

Beware of the green growth of dung.

The beautiful woman from a bad origin.
وقد ينبت المرعى على دمن الثرى وتبقى حزازات النفوس كما هي
And pasture may grow on the dung of the earth, while the grudges of souls remain as they are.
الدمان، كسحاب: الرماد.
Ad-daman (like sahab): is ashes.
الدمان: السرقين التي يزبل بها الأرض.
Ad-daman: is the dung with which the land is fertilized.
الدمان: عفن النخلة وسوادها.
Ad-daman: is the rot and blackness of a date palm.
إذا أنسغت النخلة عن عفن وسواد قيل: قد أصابه الدمان، بالفتح؛ هذا نص الجوهري.
If a date palm suffers from rot and blackness, it is said: 'Ad-daman' (with fatha) has afflicted it; this is the text of Al-Jawhari.
الدمان فساد الثمر وعفنه قبل إدراكه حتى يسود؛ ويقال أيضا الدمال باللام؛ قال: وهكذا قيده الجوهري وغيره الدمان بالفتح.
Ad-daman is the corruption and rot of fruit before ripening, until it turns black; and 'ad-damal' with lam is also said. He said: And thus Al-Jawhari and others recorded 'ad-daman' with fatha.
أدمن الشيء: أدامه ولزمه، ولم ينفك عنه.
To 'admana' something: is to make it last, to adhere to it, and not to separate from it.
مدمن الخمر كعابد الوثن
The one addicted to wine is like an idol worshipper.
فقلنا: أمن قبر خرجت سكنتهلك الويل أم أدمنت جحر الثعالب؟
So we said: Did you emerge from a grave you inhabited, woe to you, or did you persist in the fox's den?
ودمن الأرض: مثل دملها، وذلك إذا زبلها بالسرقين.
And to 'dammana' the land: is like 'dammalaha', which is when one fertilizes it with dung.
هو دمن مال ودمنته، بكسرهما، كما يقال: هو إزاء مال، أي سائسه ملازمه لا ينفك عنه.
He is 'dimn mal' and 'dimnatuhu' (with kasra in both), as it is said: he is 'izaa' mal', meaning his manager, his constant companion, from whom he does not separate.
والدمينى، كسميهى: دأماء اليربوع لإدامة إقامته فيه.
And 'ad-damini', like 'sumayhi': is the jerboa's burrow for its prolonged stay in it.
المدمن، كمُعظم: ع. وفي المحكم: أرض.
Al-mudman, like 'mu'dhim': a place. And in Al-Muhkam: land.

Ad-damun, like 'tanur': the ugly one.
دمون: ع أو أرض؛ حكاه ابن دريد؛ وأنشد لامرىء القيس: تطاول الليل علينا دمون إنا معشر يمانونو وإننا لأهلنا محبون
Damon: a place or land; narrated by Ibn Duraid; and he recited for Imru' al-Qais: The night has lengthened over us, Damon, we are a people of Yemen, and indeed we love our families.
ودمنه تدمينا: رخص له؛ عن كراع.
And to 'dammana' him: meant to make him cheap; from Kura'.
دمن بابه تدمينا: إذا غشيه و لزمه؛ قال كعب بن زهير، رضي الله تعالى عنه: أرعى الأمانة لا أخون ولا أرى أبدا أدمن عرصة الإخوان
To 'dammana' his door: means to frequent it and stick to it; Ka'b bin Zuhayr, may God be pleased with him, said: I guard trust, I do not betray, nor do I ever see myself lingering at the courtyard of friends.

Daman: a town, with many apples in Iraq.
بالجزيرة، منها أبو أحمد فهر بن بشير الرقي الداماني عن جعفر بن برقان، وعنه أهل الجزيرة، مات بعد المائتين.
In Al-Jazira, among them is Abu Ahmad Fahr bin Bashir Ar-Raqqi Ad-Damani, from Ja'far bin Burqan, and the people of Al-Jazira narrated from him. He died after the year 200 AH.
ودمامين: ة بالصعيد الأعلى، منها الضياء إبراهيم بن مكي بن عمر بن نوح بن عبد الواحد الدماميني المخزومي الكاتب، سمع عن أبي الحسين نصر بن الحسين الجلال، وحدث بالقاهرة سمع منه الشريف عز الدين أحمد بن محمد وغيره، توفي رحمه الله تعالى ببلبيس سنة 663.
And Damanin: a town in Upper Egypt, among them is Ad-Diya' Ibrahim bin Makki bin Umar bin Nuh bin Abd Al-Wahid Ad-Damanini Al-Makhzumi the scribe, he heard from Abu Al-Husayn Nasr bin Al-Husayn Al-Jalal, and he narrated in Cairo. Ash-Sharif Izz Ad-Din Ahmad bin Muhammad and others heard from him. May God have mercy on him, he died in Bilbais in the year 663 AH.
وكتاب كليلة ودمنة، بالكسر: وضع الهند؛ أي وضع حكمائهم لملوكهم، مشتمل على قصص وحكايات ونوادر وضرب أمثال لا يستغني عنها الملوك والوزراء والأمراء والحكام، ترجمه عبد الله بن المقفع إلى العربية، ثم ترجمه أبو المعالي نصر الله بن محمد بن عبد الحميد لأحد ملوك غزنة بالفارسية نظما وقد رأيت النسختين.
And the book Kalila wa Dimna (with kasra): is a work of India; meaning, their wise men composed it for their kings, containing stories, tales, anecdotes, and proverbs that kings, viziers, emirs, and rulers cannot do without. Abdullah ibn al-Muqaffa' translated it into Arabic, then Abu Al-Ma'ali Nasrullah bin Muhammad bin Abd Al-Hamid translated it into Persian verse for one of the kings of Ghazna. I have seen both versions.
والأدمان: شجرة من الجنبة؛ هو بالفتح.
And Al-Adman: a shrub from the 'junbah' family; it is with fatha.
الأدمان: عاهة من عاهات النخل؛ وهذا بالتحريك كما ضبطه هو عن ابن القطاع ومر قريبا.
Al-Adman: a disease of date palms; and this is with tahrik (vowelization) as he (Ibn Al-Qatta') recorded it and it was mentioned recently.
ودومين، وقد تفتح، ميمه: ة قرب حمص؛ ومحل ذكرها في (دوم).
And Dawmin, and its mim may be opened (fatha): a town near Homs; and its place is mentioned under (D-W-M).
الدمنة، بالكسر: الزبلة؛ والموضع الذي يلبد فيه السرقين؛ وكذلك ما اختلط من البعر والطين عند الحوض.
Ad-damnah (with kasra): is the dung heap; and the place where dung is compacted; and also what is mixed of droppings and mud near the trough.
وأيضا بقية الماء في الحوض؛ والجمع دمن، قال علقمة بن عبدة: ترادى على دمن الحياض فإن تعففإن المندى رحلة فركوب
And also the remaining water in the trough; and the plural is 'damn'. Alqamah bin Abda said: They approached the dregs of the watering troughs; if you abstain, then the place of departure is a journey and a ride.
والدمان، بالضم، لغة في الدمان، بالفتح، وقد تقدم؛ ونقل في التوشيح التثليث.
And Ad-daman (with damma), is a variant pronunciation of Ad-daman (with fatha), which has been mentioned; and in At-Tawshih, tripling is mentioned.
ودمون بن الصدف، كتنور، وبه نسب الموضع.
And Damun bin As-Sadaf, like 'tanur', and the place is attributed to it.
