وقال شمر: لا أعرف الحشنة، وأراه مأخوذا من حشن السقاء إذا لزق به وضر اللبن.

And Shamir said: I do not know al-ḥashnah, and I think it is derived from a foul milk skin when the grease of milk sticks to it.

والمحاشنة: السباب.

And al-maḥāshanah: Mutual abuse.

والتحشن: الاكتساب؛

And al-taḥashshun: Acquisition;

عن ابن بري؛ وأنشد لأبي مسلمة المحاربي: تحشنت في تلك البلاد لعلنيبعاقبة أغني الضعيف الحزورا

From Ibn Barrī; and he recited for Abu Musallamah al-Maḥāribī: I acquired wealth in those lands, hoping that by consequence I might enrich the weak and needy.
