يَعْنِي بِذَلِكَ الْمُضْطَرَّ الْجَائِعَ يَمُرُّ بِحَائِطِ الرَّجُلِ فَيَأْكُلُ مِنْ تَمْرِ نَخْلِهِ مَا يَرُدُّ بِهِ جُوعَتَهُ
Meaning the hungry, desperate person who passes by a man's wall and eats from its dates what will satisfy his hunger.
وَقِيلَ: لَيْسَ الثَّبَانُ بِوِعَاءٍ، وَلَكِنْ مَا جُعِلَ فِيهِ مِنَ التَّمْرِ فَاحْتُمِلَ فِي وِعَاءٍ أَوْ فِي غَيْرِهِ
And it was said: The 'thaban' is not a container, but rather what is placed in it of dates and is carried in a container or otherwise.
وَقَدْ يُحْمَلُ الرَّجُلُ فِي كُمِّهِ فَيَكُونُ ثَبَانُهُ
And a man might carry it in his sleeve, and that would be his 'thaban'.
وَيُقَالُ: قَدِمَ فُلَانٌ بِثَبَانٍ فِي ثَوْبِهِ
And it is said: So-and-so arrived with a 'thaban' in his garment.
وَلَا تَكُونُ ثَبْنَةٌ إِلَّا مَا حُمِلَ قُدَّامَهُ وَكَانَ قَلِيلًا، فَإِذَا عَظُمَ فَقَدْ خَرَجَ مِنْ حَدِّ الثَّبَانِ
And a 'thabnah' is only what is carried in front and is a small amount; if it becomes large, it has exceeded the limit of 'thaban'.
وَالْمِثْبَنَةُ: كِيسٌ تَضَعُ فِيهِ الْمَرْأَةُ مِرْآتَهَا وَأَدَاتَهَا
And the 'mithbanah': a pouch in which a woman places her mirror and her tools.
وَالثُّبَانُ، بِالضَّمِّ: جَمْعُ ثَبْنَةٍ، لِلْحُجْزَةِ تُحْمَلُ فِيهَا الْفَاكِهَةُ
