Abu Ubayd said: Ibn Mahdi said 'one thing', as it came in a hadith. The author mentioned it under 'B-B-B' like Al-Jawhari, and there was disagreement about this word, so it was said: it is non-Arabic, which is the opinion of Abu Sa'id al-Darir and Abu Ubayd.

Al-Azhari refuted this and said: Rather, it is a Yemeni dialect that did not spread in the speech of Ma'add, and it and 'al-ba'j' have the same meaning.
