Indeed, We offered the Trust to the heavens and the earth, the verse.

أي الفرائض المفروضة على عباده.

Meaning the obligatory duties imposed on His servants.

عرضت على آدم، عليه السلام، الطاعة والمعصية وعرف ثواب الطاعة وعقاب المعصية

Obedience and disobedience were presented to Adam, peace be upon him, and he knew the reward for obedience and the punishment for disobedience.

النية التي يعتقدها الإنسان فيما يظهره باللسان من الإيمان ويؤديه من جميع الفرائض في الظاهر، لأن الله تعالى ائتمنه عليها، ولم يظهرها لأحد من خلقه

The intention that a person holds in what they express with their tongue of faith and perform of all outward obligations, because Allah has entrusted them with it, and has not revealed it to any of His creation.

ومن أضمر من التوحيد ومن التصديق مثل ما أظهر فقد أدى الأمانة

And whoever conceals of monotheism and affirmation what they have shown has fulfilled the trust.

والإنسان في قوله: وحملها الإنسان؛ هو الكافر الشاك الذي لا يصدق، وهو الظلوم الجهول

And man, in His saying: 'And man took it up'; he is the doubting disbeliever who does not affirm, and he is the unjust, the ignorant.

الإيمان أمانة ولا دين لمن لا أمانة له

Faith is a trust, and there is no religion for one who has no trustworthiness.

الأمان: ضد الخوف.

Al-Aman: the opposite of fear.

وآمنه: ضد أخافه.

And 'Amanahu': the opposite of 'Akhāfahu' (to frighten him).

وأصحابي أمنة لأمتي

And my companions are a security for my Ummah.

البلد الأمين: مكة، شرفها الله تعالى.

The Secure City: Mecca, may Allah ennoble it.

من حلف بالأمانة فليس منا

Whoever swears by the Trust is not from us.

وإذا قال الحالف: وأمانة الله كانت يمينا عند الإمام أبي حنيفة، رضي الله تعالى عنه، والشافعي، رضي الله تعالى عنه، لا يعدها يمينا.

And if the swearer says: 'By the Trust of Allah', it was an oath according to Imam Abu Hanifa, may Allah have mercy on him, and Al-Shafi'i, may Allah have mercy on him; they do not consider it an oath.

وقد يراد بالإيمان الصلاة؛ ومنه قوله تعالى: لا يضيع إيمانكم

And by 'Iman' is sometimes meant prayer; and from this is His saying: 'He will not let your deeds be lost'.

وآمن الحلم: وثيقه الذي قد أمن اختلاله وانحلاله

And 'Aman Al-Hulm': its firm bond, which is secure from disruption and dissolution.

والمأمونة من النساء: المستراد لمثلها.

And 'Al-Ma'munah' from women: one who is sought after for her like.

واستأمن إليه: دخل في أمانه؛ نقله الجوهري.

And 'Ista'mana ilayhi': he entered into his protection; narrated by Al-Jawhari.

وأمن، بالفتح: ماء في بلاد غطفان، ويقال: يمن أيضا كما سيأتي.

And 'Amn', with fatha: a water source in the land of Ghatafan, and it is also said: Yaman, as will be mentioned later.

وإيتمنه كائتمنه، عن ثعلب.

And 'Itamnahu' like 'Ittamnahu', from Tha'lab.

واستأمنه: طلب منه الأمان؛ وأنشد ابن السكيت: شربت من أمن دواء المشي يدعى المشو طعمه كالشريقال الأزهري: أي من خالص دواء المشي.

And 'Ista'manahu': he asked him for safety; and Ibn Al-Sikkit recited: 'I drank from Amn, a medicine for walking, called Al-Mishw, its taste like Al-Shariq.' Al-Azhari said: Meaning from the pure part of the medicine for walking.

وفي النوادر: أعطيت فلانا من أمن مالي؛ فسره الأزهري فقال: من خالص مالي.

And in Al-Nawadir: 'I gave so-and-so from Amn of my wealth'; Al-Azhari explained it, saying: 'From the pure part of my wealth'.

والأمين، كأمير: بليد في كورة الغربية من أعمال مصر؛ نقله ياقوت.

And 'Al-Amin', like 'Amir': a dull person in the Gharbiyah district of Egypt; narrated by Yaqut.
