He meant: Be in the best attire and appearance, just as a shā'mah appears and is looked at apart from the rest of the body.

And Al-Shāmāt is one of the quarters of Nishapur and its surroundings, with more than three hundred villages.

And he is mushīm, mashūm, mashyūm, and ashyam.

كمكيل ومكيول أي: به شامات، وقد شيم شيما، وهي شيماء.

Like makīl and makyūl, meaning: he has marks, and he has been marked (shīma), and it is shaymā'.

والأشيم من الدواب ومن كل شيء: الذي به شامة

And al-ashyam among animals and everything else is that which has a mark on it.

والأشيم: أن تكون به شامة أو شام في جسده.

And al-ashyam means having a mark or marks on one's body.

والشامة أيضا: أثر أسود في البدن وفي الأرض ج: شام

And al-shāmah also means a black mark on the body and on the ground, plural: shām.

وإن لم تكوني غير شام بقفرة ... تجر بها الأذيال صيفية كدر

And if you were nothing but marks in a desolate place... dragging its hem, a dark summer one.

والشامة: الناقة السوداء

And al-shāmah means the black she-camel.

وما له شامة ولا زهراء أي: ما له ناقة سوداء ولا بيضاء

And he has neither a shāmah nor a zahra' means: he has neither a black camel nor a white one.

والمشيمة الغرس، وهو محل الولد

And al-mushīmah is the planting, and it is the place of the child.

ليس بمفطوم عن شيمه، مفطور عليها في المشيمة.

He is not weaned from his nature; he is created with it in the womb.

وشام سيفه يشيمه شيما: غمده، وأيضا: استله، وهو ضد.

And 'shāma sayfahu' yashīmuhu shīman means: he sheathed his sword, and also: he drew it, and it is the opposite.

إذا هي شيمت فالقوائم تحتها ... وإن لم تشم يوما علتها القوائم

If they are drawn, the hilts are beneath them... and if they are not drawn one day, their ailments are the hilts.

بأيدي رجال لم يشيموا سيوفهم ... ولم تكثر القتلى بها حين سلت

In the hands of men who did not sheathe their swords... and the slain were not many by them when they were drawn.

لا أشيم سيفا سله الله على المشركين

I will not sheathe a sword that God has drawn against the polytheists.

شم سيفك ولا تفجعنا بنفسك

Sheathe your sword and do not grieve us with yourself.

شام البرق يشيمه شيما: إذا نظر إليه أين يقصد وأين يمطر.

Al-barq (lightning) is observed (yashīmuhu) to see where it is heading and where it will rain.

شام أبا عمير يعني الذكر إذا نال من البكر مراده.

And 'shāma abā 'umayr' means the male when he achieves his desire with a virgin.

شام فلانا يشيم: إذا غير رجليه بالشيام

And 'shāma fulānan' yashīm means: when he covers his feet with dust.

شام يشيم شيما وشيوما: إذا حقق الحملة في الحرب.

And 'shāma' yashīm shīman wa shiyūman means: when he achieves the charge in war.

شام الشيء في الشيء: دخل كأشام واشتام وتشيم وشيم وانشام، كل ذلك مطاوع لشام الشيء في الشيء: إذا أدخله.

And 'shāma al-shay'a fī al-shay'' means: it entered, like 'ashāma, ishtāma, tashayyama, shīma, and inshāma, all of which are passive forms of 'shāma al-shay'a fī al-shay'' meaning: when he inserted it.

Or it is Shuntum with the nun and the dot above, as recorded by Abu al-Walid al-Faradi, and it has been mentioned before.

ألا ليت شعري هل أبيتن ليلة ... بواد وحولي إذ خر وجليل

Oh, I wish I knew if I would spend a night... in a valley, with Khirr and Jalil around me.

وهل أردن يوما مياه مجنة ... وهل يبدون لي شامة وطفيل

And will I ever reach the waters of Majannah... and will Shāmah and Ṭufayl appear to me?

شيم الإبل بالكسر: سودها، واحدها أشيم وشيماء.

Shīm al-ibil (with kasra) means their black ones; the singular is 'ashyam and shaymā'.

شام السحاب شيما: نظر إليها من بعيد

Shāma al-sahāb shīman means: he looked at the clouds from afar.

والشيام بالكسر: الكناس، سمي به لانشيام الوحش فيه أي: دخوله

And al-shiyām (with kasra) means the lair, named so because wild animals enter it, i.e., their entry.

قوم شيوم بالضم أي: آمنون، يقال: إنها حبشية.

A people shuyūm (with damma) means: secure, safe; it is said to be Abyssinian.
