وقال ابن بري: حكى ابن خالويه أنه يقال لبائع السمسم: سماس، كما يقال لبائع اللؤلؤ: لآل.
And Ibn Bree said: Ibn Khilawayh narrated that a seller of sesame is called 'samas', just as a seller of pearls is called 'la'al'.
" كأنهم عيدان! السماسم ".
"As if they were sticks! The samasim."
فإن صحت الرواية فمعناه أن السماسم جمع سمسم، وعيدانه تراها إذا قلعت وتركت ليؤخذ حبها دقاقا سودا، كأنها محترقة، فشبه بها هؤلاء الذين يخرجون من النار.
If the narration is correct, its meaning is that 'alsamasim' is the plural of 'simsim' (sesame), and its stalks are seen when uprooted and left to be harvested for their seeds, small and black, as if burnt, and those emerging from the fire are likened to them.
وما أشبه ما تكون محرفة.
And how similar it is to being corrupted.
وربما كانت كأنهم عيدان الساسم، وهو خشب كالآبنوس، والله أعلم.
And perhaps it was as if they were sticks of 'alsasim', which is wood like ebony, and God knows best.
وكفر السماسمة: قرية بمصر على النيل بالبحيرة.
And 'Kufr Al-Samasimah': a village in Egypt on the Nile in the Beheira governorate.
