And like Shaddad, Hukkam bin Aslam (or Ibn Sallam in some copies, which is correct, as in Al-Kashif by Al-Dhahabi), Al-Kanani Al-Razi, narrated from Humayd, Isma'il bin Abi Khalid, Abu Kurayb, and Al-Za'farani; he was reliable, narrated in Baghdad, and died in the year nineteen.

And Sa'd bin Ahkam, like Ahmad: an Egyptian Tabi'i. Ibn Hibban said: Sa'd bin Ahkam Al-Humayri narrated from Abu Ayyub Al-Ansari.

وحكمان، كسلمان اسم، و أيضا: ع، بالبصرة، سمي بالحكم بن أبي العاص الثقفي أخي عثمان بن أبي العاص، له صحبة، وهو الذي أمر على البحرين وافتتح فتوحا كثيرة بالعراق سنة تسع عشرة وما بعدها، ونزل البصرة.

And Hukman, like Salman, is a name. Also, a person from Basra, named after Al-Hakam bin Abi Al-'As Al-Thaqafi, the brother of Uthman bin Abi Al-'As. He had companionship (with the Prophet), and he was appointed over Bahrain and conquered many lands in Iraq from the year nineteen onwards, and he settled in Basra.

والحكامية: نخل لبني حكام كشداد باليمامة.

And Al-Hukkamiyyah: palm trees belonging to the Banu Hakam, like Shaddad, in Al-Yamama.

وكمعظم: محكم اليمامة رجل قتله خالد بن الوليد في وقعة مسيلمة، نقله الجوهري.

And like Mu'dhim: Muhkam Al-Yamama, a man killed by Khalid bin Al-Walid in the battle of Musaylimah, as reported by Al-Jawhari.

ومما يستدرك عليه: من أسمائه تعالى: الحكم، والحكيم، والحاكم، وهو أحكم الحاكمين، جل جلاله

And among what is added: His exalted names include: Al-Hakam, Al-Hakim, and Al-Hakam, and He is the most just of judges, may His glory be magnified.

قال ابن الأثير: الحكيم فعيل بمعنى فاعل. أو هو الذي يحكم الأشياء ويتقنها، فهو بمعنى مفعل.

Ibn Al-Athir said: Al-Hakim is on the pattern 'f'ayl' meaning 'doer'. Or He is the one who judges things and perfects them, so He is on the pattern 'muf'al'.

ويقال لمن يحسن دقائق الصناعات ويتقنها: حكيم.

And one who excels in and masters the subtleties of crafts is called: Hakim.

وقال الجوهري: الحكم: الحكمة من العلم.

And Al-Jawhari said: Al-Hukm: Wisdom from knowledge.

والحكيم العالم، وصاحب الحكمة، وقد حكم ككرم: صار حكيما

And Al-Hakim: the knowledgeable one, the possessor of wisdom. And he became wise like Karuma.

إذا أنت حاولت أن تحكما

If you attempt to be wise.

واحكم كحكم فتاة الحي إذ نظرت إلى حمام شراع وارد الثمد

And be wise like the judgment of the village girl when she looked at the flock of birds arriving at the watering place.

فإن الحكيم له أن يقضي على شيء بشيء فيقول: هو كذا وليس بكذا

For the wise person has the right to pass judgment on something by saying: it is this and not that.

إن من الشعر لحكما

Indeed, among poetry is wisdom.

أي إن في الشعر كلاما نافعا يمنع من الجهل والسفه وينهى عنهما

Meaning, in poetry there is beneficial speech that prevents ignorance and foolishness and prohibits them.

والحكم أيضا: العلم والفقه في الدين.

And Al-Hukm also: knowledge and understanding of religious law.

الخلافة في قريش، والحكم في الأنصار

The caliphate is in Quraysh, and the rule is in the Ansar.

وهو الذكر الحكيم

And it is the Wise Remembrance (the Quran).

أي الحاكم لكم وعليكم، أو هو المحكم الذي لا اختلاف فيه ولا اضطراب.

Meaning, the one who rules over you and against you, or it is the well-established one in which there is no contradiction or confusion.

واحتكموا إلى الحاكم كتحاكموا

And resort to the judge as you resort to arbitration.

والحكمة، محركة: القضاة، وأيضا المستهزئون.

And Al-Hikmah (with vowels): the judges, and also the mockers.

وحاكمناه إلى الله: دعوناه إلى حكم الله.

And we referred him to God: we called him to the judgment of God.

وحكم الرجل يحكم حكما: بلغ النهاية في معناه مدحا لا ذما.

And a man 'hakama' (reached the peak) in his meaning, a praise not a blame.

استحكم الرجل: إذا تناهى عما يضره في دينه ودنياه

A man 'istahkama': if he reached the peak of what harms him in his religion and his worldly life.

واحتكم الأمر واستحكم: وثق.

And the matter 'ihtakama' and 'istahkama': became firm.

وحكمت الفرس وأحكمته وحكمته: قدعته وكففته.

And I 'hakamt', 'ahkamtu', and 'hakkamt' the horse: I restrained it and stopped it.

وفي الحديث: شفاعتي لأهل الكبائر من أمتي حتى حكم وحاء

And in the hadith: My intercession is for the major sinners of my Ummah, even for Hakam and Haa'.

قال ابن الأثير وهما قبيلتان جافيتان من وراء رمل يبرين.

Ibn Al-Athir said: And they are two nomadic tribes from beyond the sands of Yabrin.

ومنهم رهط الجراح بن عبد الله الحكمي عامل خراسان، روى عن ابن سيرين، قال ابن الأثير يروي المراسيل.

And among them is the clan of Al-Jarrah bin Abdullah Al-Hakami, the governor of Khurasan, who narrated from Ibn Sirin. Ibn Al-Athir said: He narrates mursal hadith.

وأبو علي ناصر بن إسماعيل الحكمي القاضي بنوقان طوس

And Abu Ali Nasir bin Isma'il Al-Hakami, the judge of Nuqan, Tus.

وأبو القاسم الحكيم هو إسحاق بن محمد بن إسماعيل السمرقندي، يضرب بحكمته المثل، ولي قضاء سمرقند مدة، وروى عنه أبو جعفر ابن منيب السمرقندي وغيره.

And Abu Al-Qasim Al-Hakim is Ishaq bin Muhammad bin Isma'il Al-Samarqandi, whose wisdom is proverbial. He served as the judge of Samarqand for a period, and Abu Ja'far Ibn Munib Al-Samarqandi and others narrated from him.

وعبد العزيز المصري التمار، روى عن البوصيري يعرف بالحكمة، محركة، وضبطه ابن نقطة بكسر فسكون.

And Abdul Aziz Al-Masri Al-Tamar, who narrated from Al-Busayri, is known as Al-Hikmah (with vowels), and Ibn Nuqta recorded it with kasr then sukun.

وأبو تراب بن أبي حكمة، محركة، ذكره العلوي الكوفي في تاريخه، وقال: مات سنة اثنتين وأربعمائة.

And Abu Turab bin Abi Hikmah (with vowels), mentioned by Al-Alawi Al-Kufi in his history, and he said: He died in the year four hundred and two.

وبكسر فسكون، حكمة بن مالك ابن حذيفة بن بدر الفزاري، وبه يعرف سوق حكمة في الكوفة.

And with kasr then sukun, Hikmah bin Malik bin Hudhayfah bin Badr Al-Fazari, after whom the market of Hikmah in Kufa is known.

وأبو حكيم كزبير، عن علي، وعنه عبد الملك بن شداد.

And Abu Hakim, like Zubayr, narrated from Ali, and Abdul Malik bin Shaddad narrated from him.

وكجهينة، أبو حكيمة ثابت بن عبد الله بن الزبير.

And like Juhaynah, Abu Hakimah Thabit bin Abdullah bin Al-Zubayr.

And Abu Hakimah Ismah, from Abu Uthman, and Qurrah bin Khalid narrated from him.

And Abu Hakimah Zam'ah bin Al-Aswad was killed as an unbeliever on the day of Badr, and his son Abdullah had companionship (with the Prophet).

And the matter 'istahkama' upon him, meaning: it became confusing, as in Al-Asas.
