Ibn Jinni said: Turaym is on the pattern 'fay'il' like 'hathim' and 'tarim', and it cannot be on the pattern 'fa'lalil' like 'dirham', because waw and ya cannot be original in four-letter roots.
قال ابن بري: واد قرب النقيع، وقرأت في كتاب نصر هو بالحجاز واد قريب من ينبع، وقيل: دوين مدين، وأيضا موضع في بادية البصرة، انتهى.

فحينئذ قول ابن بري قرب النقيع تصحيف، فإن النقيع من أودية المدينة، فتأمل
Therefore, Ibn Barrī's statement 'near al-Nuqay'' is a textual corruption, for al-Nuqay' is one of the valleys of Madinah. Ponder this.
ورأيته بخط القزاز تريم، بفتح التاء، كما ذكره الجوهري، قال: والصواب تريم مثال عثير، قال: وليس في الكلام فعيل غير ضهيد، قال: ولا يصح فتح التاء من تريم إلا أن يكون وزنها تفعل، وهذا الوجه غير ممتنع؛ والأول أظهر.
And I saw it in the handwriting of al-Qazzaz as 'Turaym', with a fatha on the ta', as al-Jawhari mentioned. He said: The correct form is 'Turaym' on the pattern of 'uthayr'. He said: And there is no word on the pattern 'fay'il' except 'dhaheed'. He said: And opening the ta' of 'Turaym' is not correct unless its pattern is 'tafa'ala', and this possibility is not impossible; the first is more apparent.
والذي في نسخ الصحاح كلها تريم، بكسر التاء، هكذا هو مضبوط، ولعله إصلاح فيما بعد.
And what is in all copies of al-Sihah is 'Turaym', with a kasra on the ta'. This is how it is vocalized, and it might be a later correction.

And it is the dwelling place of the Sayyids of Al Ba'alawi now, and from it they dispersed into the lands. The first of them to settle there was their greatest ancestor, Ahmad ibn Isa ibn Muhammad ibn Ali ibn Ja'far al-Sadiq al-Husseini. He came to it from Basra in the year three hundred and forty-five, and this righteous descendant had offspring there, and his grave is there at the foot of a mountain to the right of one heading to Turaym.

And Nasr said: And it is also said Turaym: a land in Sham, and it was mentioned in the Yamanite city with hamza as well.
